Trump blasts 'Mr. Tough Guy' Bolton: 'He made some very big mistakes'

He slammed a mistake Bolton made early in his tenure at the White House when he discussed a "Libyan model" in the context of North Korea — which that country took as a sign that its leadership could meet the fate of former Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi.

“So, John is somebody that I actually got along with very well. He made some very big mistakes,” Trump said a day after his abrupt ousting of Bolton.

He said the "Libyan model" remark had set back talks with North Korea and was “not a good statement to make.”

“And it set us back, and frankly he wanted to do things — not necessarily tougher than me — You know John’s known as a tough guy. He’s so tough he got us into Iraq … but he’s actually somebody I had a very good relationship with. But he wasn’t getting along with people in the administration that I consider very important.”

Trump said North Korean leader Kim Jong Un no longer wanted to work with Bolton after the Libya remark.

“As soon as he mentioned that, the Libyan model, what a disaster. Take a look at what happened to Gadhafi," Trump said. “I don’t blame Kim Jong Un for what he said after that. And he wanted nothing to do with John Bolton. And that's not a question of being tough. That’s a question of being not smart to say something like that.”

Trump later belittled Bolton as "Mr. Tough Guy."

“John wasn’t in line with what we were doing and actually in some cases he thought it was too tough what we were doing," he said. "Mr. Tough Guy, you know, you had to go into Iraq. Going into Iraq was something he felt very strongly about.”

The best way to get of old bombs is to use them, then military contractors can make new ones....

I hate these war mongers. Full of bluster and bravado, risking other innocent lives.

FU John Bolton, go away.

Using the Libya model was a huge mistake. Bolton was referring to how we got Ghadaffi to give up his nuclear materials, but Kim saw what happened to Ghadaffi once Obama ran the show.

Looks like Bolton forgot his place

I always had that feeling when he was on Fox, commentation on world events. When he went to the WH, I did not see him quietly sitting by

Trump “Blasts” Bolton. Sounds like he’s talking calmly and realistically.

Damn media loves to stir the pot.

I could see bringing in Bolton (whom I despise) as Designated Bad Cop for negotiation purposes, but he clearly wasn’t willing to play the blustering foil to Trump.

Trump brought in Bolton, not because he necessarily agreed with him, but because he valued his insights. My guess is Bolton expected Trump to agree with him.

A good manager should have a team with diverse opinions, all making their case, and then make prudent decisions based on that input. Bolton’s role was to make the case from a “Hawkish” viewpoint, Trump obviously didn’t see it that way, in the end.

Did anybody watch Tucker Carlson last night? He eviscerated Bolton with video clips of prior interviews by Tucker Carlson of Bolton. In one of them Bolton would not admit that invading Iraq was a mistake. Bolton kept saying “I have been a foreign policy expert for a long time” or “People who have been foreign policy experts for a long time...blah blah blah..”

I love President Trump. I believe in him, totally.

But, I'm going to say right here that going into Iraq was a very good thing.

What made it the disaster it became was electing Barack Obama, pulling out under the guise of disagreeing with the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) Without military protection, those who favored the USA... and Christians became prey.

And let's not even talk about the billions he later gave to Iran, who has since gained influence in the region.

Bolton was 100% right on Iraq.

But The Manchurian, (who incidentally 'executed' the "Libyan Model"), with Hillary's help, had other plans.

Trump’s foreign policy is not clear.

Why do you say that?

This older Tucker Carlson segment from a few months ago was even better -- and when I did a little bit of background research I decided it is probably a perfect illustration of why these war-mongering globalists should never, ever be trusted to look out for our national interests:

"John Bolton is a Bureaucratic Tapeworm"

The segment that starts at the 6:12 mark is actually quite startling when you understand the context. It's from a 2017 speech Bolton gave in Paris to a group of Iranian exiles called MEK (Mujahedeen Khalq, or People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran). I did some research on this organization. It was a socialist Iranian revolutionary group founded in the 1960s, and was considered a terrorist organization by the U.S. government up until 2012. The U.S. military even attacked MEK militant groups that were operating in Iraq during the Iraq war, after the MEK bombed the U.N. compound in Iraq in August 2003.

Listen to that deranged @sshole and think about what he's saying: It was 2017, he had no role in government at the time, and yet he was standing there in front of that group of exiled Iranians insisting that "we here" would be celebrating "in Tehran" ... BEFORE 2019..

Good riddance to this demented pr!ck.

Bolton is right on Israel, not wanting Russia gassing folks
in Syria, protecting Kurds, not wanting Iran deal.

Trump knew what he was getting with Bolton the good and bad
Bolton was great at UN.

Bolton is great on Israel and now that Greenblat and Bolton
are gone Israel is scared of the 2 state deal being back
and the Palies never want peace, never keep agreements.

Libya plan had 2 parts, and I was all in favor of getting
rid of their nukes. The kept their word, got rid of Nukes. It was Madam Hillary’s idea to have Ghadaffi killed
Naturally NK Kim thought that was Bolton’s point.
I think disarming was John’s point not assassination

Lets face it this Camp David meeting had no intense
prep, and just a few days before 9/11 to bring them here
was bad timing.

I have no interest in defending Obama, but he has nothing to answer for when it comes to Iraq. That whole thing was a debacle before he was even presidential candidate.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the guise of disagreeing with the Status of Forces Agreement," either. Obama removed the U.S. troops from Iraq the end of 2011 under the explicit terms of the SOFA that had been signed by George W. Bush in November 2008.

The Christians didn't become "prey" because the U.S. troops left. They became prey because the U.S. went to Iraq and toppled a government that actually protected them from radical Muslims.
