Liberals will invariably oppose Trump no matter what. But how many conservatives will even bother to respond to these approval polls? I know I won’t.

You mention people who will not vote for him because of his mouth, and people who will vote for him, despite his mouth.
But you aren’t mentioning all the people (like me) who will vote for him precisely BECAUSE of his mouth - I think there are tens of millions of us.
People crave honesty in politics - and the only sure way to tell whether a politician is being honest, is to look at whether they give a rat’s ass what anyone thinks.
President Trump speaks his mind and gets raked over the coals for it 24/7.
Obviously, when he chooses what to say, he’s not going for public approval - so what’s he doing? He’s speaking the unvarnished truth. He is saying things that people in power don’t want to hear.
When President Trump starts choosing his words carefully, so as not to offend anyone, that’s when we’ll know he has become a DC politician and that he’s finally tired of winning.
His fake approval ratings will go up, but the crowd sizes at his rallies will shrivel down to that of normal politicians.
I hope it never happens!
I rather like Rick Santorum but regardless, let’s take a practical approach to this…..
During the last election, the entire enemedia and the Clinton campaign had her winning by double digits and as we know, that was nonsense. It raises the question though of what difference does it really make when farfetched opinions such as these are put out there.
- Are there really voting folks who think that they should jump on a bandwagon because it appears that everyone else has done that and they are better off joining the runaway train as opposed to going against it?
- Is it possible that voters who would normally go out and vote for a candidate might get lackadaisical and figure “gee, if he/she is so far out in front, it’s not really all that important that I go out and vote.”
- If it appears that a candidate for the opposite party to what one normally votes for is doing well, does that act as a boot in the rear end to go out and vote to counteract that ‘success’?
- Or if a candidate who one would not typically vote for is being promoted wildly in the media as ‘running away with it’, does it have the opposite effect and cause potential voters such discouragement they stay home?
Out of all this push and pull, what come out on top? Even if what Santorum is saying is nonsense, might it actually be helping Trump by encouraging supporters to get out the vote? I guess I’m not convinced that polls actually influence outcomes because for every vote it might affect to change in one direction of the overall count, there is likely a vote that was affected in the other direction. Does anyone know of a good study that has looked at this?
