Police in the Seattle suburb of Bellevue had a chance to get Carlos Daniel Carillo-Lopez, an illegal immigrant, off the streets in March but a local jail defied a deportation notification request from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and released him into the community.
Three weeks later, police say, the 19-year-old Guatemalan, eager to join the violent Surenos street gang, took part in a murder posse that tracked down and slew a teen from a rival gang.
Mr. Carillo-Lopez, who came to the U.S. as part of the Unaccompanied Alien Child (UAC) surge, is at the crossroads of the current immigration debate, having gained a foothold in the U.S. thanks to more relaxed policies for those children then managed to remain here, despite a growing criminal record, thanks to the prevalence of sanctuary city policies.
He was in police custody repeatedly over the last six months, both before and after the murder, and each time ICE asked that deportation officers be notified before he was released. Each time jails defied the request, ICE says.
This is yet again another example of sanctuary policies shielding criminal aliens who prey on people in their own and other communities from immigration enforcement, Tanya Roman, an ICE spokeswoman, told The Washington Times. As Carillo-Lopezs crimes increased in severity, local officials chose to release him, time and time again, over immigration detainers that could have taken him off the streets.
By ICEs count, Bellevue police and the King County Sheriffs Department arrested Mr. Carillo-Lopez once in March, twice in April and once again in June. Each time he was released without ICE being told. Three of those releases were from South Correctional Entity Jail, which Bellevue contracts with, and the other release was from King Countys jail.

Jails don't do anything. Jailers do.
Political and police department leaders do.
So how many times has this happened across the country in “sanctuary cities and states?”
Idiots vote Dem.
Dems let criminals go wild. Plus taxes out of sight.
Voters then leave for other states to get away——but then VOTE DEM AGAIN to ruin another state.
I have no understanding of how federal LEO
ever have to stand aside anywhere in the US
in these cases.
Doesnt the supremacy of federal law apply?
At least he killed another gang member.
It’s the silver lining in the story.
Hope someone kills him back.
Yep, and there’s a good chance a gangbanger will kill him back if he’s released, he named the shooter.
YES ! And that is now happening to Texas, becoming seriously infected from Dem flight, turning it into the hellholes they are fleeing. City of Austin is badly infected, following the course of Los Angeles and San Francisco allowing street defecation and homeless tent cities. Filthy city !!
I had heard rumors that Austin and Fort worth were going “sanctuary” status.

Why not throw all the dangerous criminals back out on the streets? Why not your fellow thug citizens too? Are they not as good as the illegals? Discrimination. Hypocrisy.
Libtard morons have proven they are unfit to ever hold any political or administrative office.
You nailed that right in the ten ring.
Where’s Charles Bronson when you need him?
Get them bearded dudes on TV that are tracking down Bigfoot, UFOs and haunted things and get them a REAL job!!
Yep, he played that part well. It’s a shame there aren’t a lot of Paul Kersey’s in real life.
since the feds are impotent on this, is anyone going to win court case against these officials.
MAYBE ICE SHOULD DETAIN EVERYONE COMING OUT OF JAIL TILL THEY ESTABLISH THEY ARE HERE LEGALLY.
Wait until they start taking out family members of the sanctuarians.
They need to send the US Marshals in to get these illegal aliens. If anyone gets in their way or refuses to cooperate, they can be hauled off to a federal detention facility awaiting trial.
ICE is limited in who they can detain. The Marshals hands would not be tied.
Down here in Southwest Florida, I have a lot of New York and New Jersey friends, good conservatives one and all.
I keep seeing this generalization that people who flee idiot-run blue states carry the contagion to red states.
But what I really see is the population sorting itself, or balkanizing if you will.
It would be so wonderful to free my home state of New York from the political millstone that is New York City. Buffalo proper is still RAT-infested, but the suburbs and rural areas surrounding couldn’t be nicer.
