In attacking President Donald Trump, Democrat Joe Biden runs a risk – having his own résumé as a Washington insider turned against him.
As the impeachment fight between President Donald Trump and House Democrats escalates, it has largely pushed the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates out of the news.
All, that is, except one.
On Wednesday, former Vice President Joe Biden became the last of the top-tier Democratic contenders to call for President Trump’s impeachment. It was his most forceful response yet to Mr. Trump’s apparent efforts to get Ukraine – and later, China – to investigate him and his son Hunter for corruption. “Trump will do anything to get reelected, including violating the most basic forms of democracy,” Mr. Biden said at a town hall in New Hampshire. “It’s stunning, and it’s dangerous.”
There’s no evidence that the Bidens did anything illegal in Ukraine. And so far, the former vice president’s collateral role in the scandal hasn’t appeared to hurt his standing in the polls. The Trump campaign’s focus on him may even be helping perpetuate his image as a front-runner.
But it’s also serving to highlight a key tension in Mr. Biden’s candidacy: One of his main strengths – his many years at the heart of the Washington establishment – may also be his biggest weakness.
To many voters, Mr. Biden is respected and well liked, a known quantity. Wrapped in the halo of affection Democrats have for former President Barack Obama, he has presented himself as a return to “normalcy” after the turmoil of the Trump years. 3. If Hunter Biden’s role wasn’t illegal, was it ethical?
It was not ethical, according to Sarah Chayes, author of “Thieves of State: Why Corruption Threatens Global Security.” In an Atlantic opinion piece, she suggests that Burisma was using the Biden name to scrub its reputation and Hunter Biden was cashing in. She sees the Ukraine case as an example of a global culture of U.S. “consultants” – including former Obama and Bush officials – being paid large sums to help legitimize theft, by “trading on their connections and their access to insider policy information – usually by providing services to kleptocrats...,” she writes.

After watching the Glenn Beck video on the whole affair, I am likely to see more worthy insight by reading through the phone book than from a place like the Christian Science Monitor.

It is maddening that so-called journalists publish such tripe. The criminal is on videotape bragging and confessing. Yet the media waves it all away and says “no evidence”.
Meanwhile, of course, Trump, Kavanaugh, and all other Republicans are guilty until proven innocent.
There IS NO EVIDENCE of any corruption or malfeasance in the obama administration. It was absolutely scandalous free....

Ah, the Christian Science Monitor.....Reliably liberal since the early 60’s.
History repeats itself.
I’ve said for 40 years that just because something is legal, doesn’t make it moral. And, conversely, just because something is illegal, doesn’t make it immoral.
The laws are arbitrary. Some are tied directly to morality, but many are not. And they can get us into trouble when applied in a “one size fits all” fashion.
An example: In my state it is illegal to have an “opened” alcohol container in your car. However, I had a bag of glass containers in my car to take to the recycling center. One of them is a big Costco Scotch bottle. There is even still scotch in the bottle - a drop or three coating the glass inside.
I’m breaking the law by doing that. But am I breaking the spirit of the law? Absolutely not. Nevertheless, if I’m pulled over by a local cop that really hates me, and he sees that bottle sticking out of the bag, I’m in big trouble.
On a side note, this is how I see this three year impeachment farce.
