Schiff - ex-Trump deputy national security advisor Kupperman may be held in contempt over no-show
CNBC ^ | 10/28/19 | Kevin Breuninger

House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff said Monday that former national security adviser John Bolton's deputy Charles Kupperman may be held in contempt after he failed to comply with a subpoena to testify in the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.

"Witnesses like Dr. Kupperman need to do their duty and show up," Schiff told reporters after Kupperman failed to appear for a scheduled deposition.

Schiff, D-Calif., said he believes that Kupperman's testimony before the House Intelligence, Oversight and Foreign Affairs committees "would corroborate the allegations of misconduct that other witnesses have made."

Schiff, who has been leading the impeachment probe in the House, also said the panels will "obviously consider, as we inform Dr. Kupperman's counsel, his failure to appear as evidence that may warrant a contempt proceeding against him."

I hold Congress in contempt every day of the year.

Been that way for years, even when Paul Ryan, Bush League Republican, was Speaker.

Good sign. This is Bolton’s guy. A lot of people here were panicked that Bolton was going to sell us out. His ego may be hurt but I have trouble believing Jon is going to help the Rats whom he knows is destroying our country.

Congress can’t just issue subpoenas on a whim.
Am waiting to see what the authority for these alleged subpoenas is.
And waiting, and waiting, ...

Are these now legal subpoenas or just more of the ‘request letters’ from congress? MSM still using the language as propaganda...Tell them to vote or pound sand.

How can one be held in contempt for a quasi-legal proceeding that itself is a violation of House precedent, rule, protocol, and the law?

”do their duty “...
Give me a break. The only ‘duty’ the Rats do is number 2.

Adam Schitt went way off the rails this morning.

Even Ken Starr took him to task.

This guy consulted with his lawyer and the WH and decided to challenge Schitt’s subpoena in court.

Of course, Schitt declared that a court challenge was further proof of POTUS’ obstruction AND GUILT because “only the guilty are afraid to testify. “

No duty to show up for an invitation, even if they stamped it with the word “subpoena”.

I didn't think that unless the full House voted for an impeachment inquiry that subpoenas count be issued. Only demand letters.

Demand letter don't mean crap.

Anybody have a better take on this subpoena question? Thanks.

There is no impeachment. The House has not voted for such. Why should he attend a show trial where he will be abused?

Can they hold a citizen in contempt when their invitation to testify is not backed by an actual subpoena? And since neither the committee, nor the House as a whole, have voted to authorize an investigation do they even have the legal power to compel testimony?

[[ex-Trump deputy national security advisor Kupperman may be held in contempt over no-show]]

Why? How? Is there an impeachment going on or something? No? Then how can he be held in contempt?
