For me , back 15 yrs ago when I purchased my Malinois ( 2 pick of the litter @ $800 ea) I sat down in the grass near where mama was nursing her bitty pup litter , and first one little puppy made it’s way over to me and started pulling on my cuff , followed shortly by another one. We picked those two , there & then. Nearly a month later when the breeder was ready to release our picks , sure enough , they came over to us , voluntarily, and again began to attack our cuffs . DEFINITELY our dogs. 15 yrs later still my best friend in the whole world ( sorry wifey. ;^)Sadly , her sister was shot to death by a m/f punk neighbor at age 5. We honor her ashes box to this day . Some day we will all be together again. Maks are the best if the best, bar none.

Oh wow what a question. I don’t know. All but one my dogs are or have been rescues.
I use the same method sorta. With new pups I let them find me. With rescue dogs, I look for the breed and then see how we bond. I rescued a female border collie once. She had been brought back to the shelter twice in her first four years and had lost faith in humans. It took me almost 2 hours of laying on the shelter floor to finally get her to let me touch her. She was a great dog but working dogs are smart and they have a possession complex if they put you in the herd or pack, you are theirs.
Teach her to sniff out the holdover deep staters in the WH. I'd love to see her chase pajama Boy down the road.

Considering the dogs’ training for this special service, I wonder if they make good pets in retirement. He said the dog is even trained to attack if a person’s mouth is wide open. An absolutely beautiful and majestic looking dog — who loves Mike Pence. That’s sweet.
IIRC, POTUS said during the campaign that he’s not partial to dogs; he’s a germophobe. Seems that someone did give Barron a dog right around election time, and the dog didn’t stay. (I could be wrong about all of this — just my old memory.)
DJT is not partial to dogs, but yet he puts up with deep state curs in his house?
