During the Obama administration, the number of officeholders at all levels who were Democrats kept shrinking. I think that many of the Democrats who lost or gave up were the more moderate ones in districts where they were not able to win. By default, the Democrat party became much more radical because the moderate Democrats no longer represented a powerful voice in the party.

What we are seeing now is the strengthening of the radical wing of the Democrats because of the Republican-led “purge” of the moderates from their party.

I’ve noticed that too where the Democrats have always controlled all the offices, such as in Chicago/Cook County. Right now, 6 of the 50 members of the Chicago City Council are DSA. That is recent growth, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it increase as the old-timers retire or go to jail. The leadership of the Chicago Teachers Union are social justice warriors who, a few years back, attended a Marxist conference at Northwestern, where their most recent strike was commended as part of the revolutionary movement.

Dems run them into the ground... then they run to the GOP to clean up the mess, and then once its cleaned up go back to the chaos... can’t fix stupid.
