A major gay rights organization is pushing for 20 percent of all television characters to be LGBT by the year 2025.
According to a report called "Where We Are on TV", which was released Thursday from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the presence of characters who identify as LGBT in television programming is key to changing hearts and minds in culture. The report cites an online survey of 2,037 adults indicating that one-fifth of Americans ages 18-34 and that 12 percent of all adults identify as LGBT or other non-heterosexual, non-biological gender categories.
GLAAD president Sarah Kate Ellis notes in the report that “less than one-quarter of Americans have a close friend or family member who is transgender,” meaning that many Americans “learn about trans people from what they see in television, movies, and news.”
The online survey used in the GLAAD media report is more reflective of what many perceive about percentages of LGBT-identified persons rather than the actual figures from reputable polling organizations.

I’m glad I don’t have cable.
Down from 30% at present.
They wonder why people don’t watch TV any more.
And gay female soccer players must earn the same as top male athletes.
First it was merely: “we just want to love who we want in private.”
Then it was: “bake the damn cake for us, or else”
Now it is: “we demand that the gay lifestyle be displayed on public airwaves.”
Homos are between 1% and max 3% of the population and they want 1/5 of tv roles? How about they press for a higher representation of Asian ancestry folks who out number their queer number?
First it was black TV characters. 13% of the populace, the expectation was for a much higher percentage of TV characters. Eventually, there were be very few white males in TV (unless they are criminals) and a decreasing number of white females (their usefulness to the cause is waning).
I’ll be more than happy to stop watching everything too.

Why don’t we just make 2 of everything?
That way us normal folks can have, say “Normal Avengers”, and they can have “LGBTQ Avengers” where Iron NonGenderBinaryPerson and Captain Europa are gay lovers?
I’d rather push them back into the closet.

Why should they get 20% of the characters and all this programming if only 2% of them in the viewer population?

They’re 3% of society, let’s stick to 3% on channels I don’t watch.
