Gov. Ron DeSantis pushes for E-Verify immigration checks for workers at The Villages event
Orlando Sentinel ^ | 11/25/2019 | News Service of Florida

Speaking to a group of supporters at The Villages, Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday once again vowed to require Florida businesses to use a federal system to check the immigration status of new hires.

Flanked by Sen. Joe Gruters and Rep. Cord Byrd, two key Republican lawmakers who helped the governor deliver a ban on so-called sanctuary cities this spring, DeSantis said mandating E-Verify will be the next step in deterring undocumented immigrants from coming to Florida.

“The fact is that the number one reason why we have illegal immigration is because of an employment magnet,” the governor said. “I support things like a wall, but really, the number one reason why you see a flow is because of that (employment).”

DeSantis has made a priority of the controversial proposal ahead of the 2020 legislative session, which starts in January.

But Senate President Bill Galvano has expressed caution about approving the measure, saying last month its passage is “not guaranteed.”

Sen. Tom Lee, R-Thonotosassa, has filed legislation (SB 664) that would require all private employers to use E-Verify.

Gruters, a Sarasota senator who doubles as chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, is co-sponsoring the legislation...

“Maybe just talk, but we’ll see.”

If it winds up being just talk, we’ll know who owns the Republicans in Florida.

In Texas, despite overwhelming Republican majorities in the past, we never even got to talk level. So we know who owns the party here.

Just avoid sex with illegals! Don’t need more bureaucratic procedures.

The Villages has one of the highest percentages of STD in the nation. Have fun in the sun (or dark). Retire to Florida.

What was wrong with the Brassaro program? Trump offered to let them stay provided they were never allowed citizenship. If they only want to work what’s the problem? A Democrat in the WH could COMPEL citizenship. Trumps idea would not allow for a hit and run or bar fight. Sounds good to me.

Let’s hope Pres. Trump puts the full package out there. This should be part of a Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement bill, missing since 1987 ONE TIME amnesty. The List of Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement, missing since 1987 goes like this -

1) southern barrier;
2) require eVerify to hire;
3) end all chain migration;
4) birthright per Minor v. Happersett (plural parents);
5) end work visas;
6) 10-year moratorium on all new applications for citizenship (40 years to allow workplace automation effects on downsizing population);
7) Set up an illegal aliens’ victim restitution fund.

Enactment of these provisions will motivate illegal aliens to SELF-deport, and remove colonizadors from our welfare rolls.

It doesn't work:
'E-Verify allows politicians to have it both ways: Supporting it makes them look tough on illegal immigration while the fact that it’s so easy to evade means their local businesses and economies are largely unaffected. Thus, politicians who support E-Verify get the political benefits without their constituents paying the economic costs. (Undoubtedly, there are some politicians who support E-Verify because they think it will work, but conviction is greater when principle is cheaper.)'

If they only want to work what’s the problem?

Because Americans should have those jobs.

It doesn't work:

If it doesn't work why are the dems and open border republicans completely opposed to it?

Because its a game changer and they know it. Trump even offered them DACA in exchange and they still said no.

It doesn't work because it has built in holes to evade immigration enforcement. That has been known for years. Just look at Mississippi and see the flaws with the current everify. That's why companies like it that hire illegals, they can easily get around it.

people have a choice...

(1) Eat in fast food restaurant further away if your neighborhood places close down.

(2) Buy groceries and cook at home. Note that now-a-days there are many items available in grocery stores which require only microwave or other minimum effort cooking.
