The Newsweek reporter who wrote an inaccurate story about President Trump's Thanksgiving Day plans has been fired. The outlet's original story claimed the president only planned on tweeting and golfing during his holiday break, neglecting to mention his trip to Afghanistan.
Newsweek’s Jessica Kwong, whose Twitter handle identifies her as a political reporter "covering Trump administration and family," initially published the article Thursday morning, before the president's trip to Afghanistan was announced publicly. The story's initial headline was, “How is Trump spending Thanksgiving? Tweeting, golfing and more.” “Newsweek investigated the failures that led to the publication of the inaccurate report that President Trump spent Thanksgiving tweeting and golfing rather than visiting troops in Afghanistan," a Newsweek representative told the Washington Examiner. "The story has been corrected, and the journalist responsible has been terminated. We will continue to review our processes and, if required, take further action.” Hours after the president's trip was announced, Newsweek edited Kwong's story and added a note at the bottom of it. The beginning of the story now focuses on the president's trip and his speech to the troops, while the new headline reads, “How is Trump spending Thanksgiving? Tweeting, golfing — and surprising U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

Trump’s trip was carefully kept secret until it was announced. Naturally, the reporter failed to penetrate this security and wrote what he the administration told him, before going off to Thanksgiving dinner. Maybe he should have called in to the office if he saw it on TV, but maybe he was busy doing something else.

Hey, the MSM and Newsweek should not stop there...FIRE ALL OF their lying, so called journalists! CLEAN HOUSE and hire some real journalists.
Every rag has these stories written in advance. Some “editor” picked the wrong one to run. It wasn’t the writer’s fault — she wrote what she was told to write based on what the reasonably expected Trump to be doing.
It’s the “editor” who should be sacked.
Of course, given how shrunken Newsweek is, it isn’t unlikely she’s the reporter, writer, editor, gossip columnist, lovelorn columnist, business editor and web geek all rolled into one. They are so thin on staff, maybe she fired herself.
Give it 2 weeks. She’ll be quietly hired by someone. Maybe even Newsweek will hire her back.
I must say Jessica Kwong is a cute little thing. With that out of the way, yes her story could not be more wrong, and on Thanks Giving day to top it.
Is she really so stupid as to think she could get by with such an outright lie? I bet she was set up and played. I bet she had some supposed inside source that fed her BS, and it was just so good she had to run with it without even checking it for accuracy.
Regardless whether it be a blunder or on purpose, she deserves to be fired.
