Farm bill panned as mass ‘amnesty’ for illegal immigrants heads to vote in House
Fox News ^ | Wednesday, December 11, 2019 | Adam Shaw

As all eyes are on the House impeachment inquiry, elsewhere an agricultural bill that could provide a path to legal status for millions of illegal immigrants is rumbling through the chamber — leading immigration hawks to accuse lawmakers of trying to sneak in an amnesty while the nation is distracted.

The Farm Workforce Modernization Act, passed in the House Judiciary Committee last month, is scheduled for a vote on the House floor Wednesday. The bill provides a process for undocumented farmworkers to seek a temporary five-and-a-half-year “Certified Agricultural Worker” status if they have worked for approximately six months in the industry in the last two years.

That status can either be renewed indefinitely, or workers (along with their spouses and children) can begin a path to permanent legal status in the form of a green card. That path, according to the legislation, includes background checks and $1,000 fine.

To secure the green card, those who have worked in agriculture for 10 years or more must work for four more years, while those who've spent less than a decade in the sector would have to work eight more years. Once workers receive a green card, they are then free to pursue work in fields outside of agriculture...

The bill has the support of at least 23 Republicans, a number of whom are co-sponsoring the legislation -- likely assuring its passage in the House and raising the possibility that a form of such a bill could have a shot in the Republican-controlled Senate. Among the dozens of Democratic co-sponsors is House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., who's also playing a lead role in the impeachment effort.

This is bad news. This is an attempt at a "backdoor amnesty," and unless it gets more attention/opposition, it might just pass.

I want every illegal in our country to get legal status immediately. Send them all back home, where they are already legal. Problem solved.

i know i’m very likely VERY way off on this but I wonder if dems see the impeachment thing as a fiasco and are maybe trying to get a few bills passed in return for a censure.

I KNOW it’s far fetched so put down the tomatoes!! :)

Might be the six pack I just had talking.

Will decisively turn Arizona and Texas into Rat states forever.

Phoenix is now majority Mexican and Tucson is close behind. A few hundred thousand more Amnestadors and the takeover will be complete - the lights will go out in Arizona as the state becomes something it never was: Mexico.

Hopefully people with Twitter are already tweeting Trump about the amnesty for illegals farm bill.

But probably not, these things never seem to be caught by trump until the last minute.

what’s with the 5-1/2yr term? This seriously sounds like a colonization plan the Chesapeake Bay Corporate Colony thought up 5 centuries ago. A seasonal, go home with your pay, program makes a lot more sense, no family allowed.

1. How does this mesh with the ongoing automation of many segments of US agriculture as well as intercontinental trade in produce that has already minimized our the need for fulltime manual laborers?
2. How does opening unlimited competition to the 88% of all farms that are small, family-owned farms, help OUR farmers, when most already need supplemental wages/pension to compete against intercontinental trade and stay in operation as it is?

Bush League Republicans like Flimsey Grahamnesty and Micro Rubio can’t wait to vote for this.
They’ll take any amnesty they can get, that’s why they refused to sue to stop the Kenyan from Indonesia’s DACA.

I liked the Dems better when they were just impeaching. Now they’re legislating. G-d help us all. It’s for things like this that the Senate and Presidential veto were made.

The left cannot stand the candidates true Americans are electing to public office. So they are changing who the “true” American voters actually are. A search of voting rolls in our county has revealed green card holders who are registered Democrats. In Florida, motor voter rules. All they have to do in an election year is produce their drivers license, then “self-certify” they are “American citizens” when they vote.

Ironic that the Democrats are supposedly all against slavery yet this bill would turn illegal aliens into semi-legal indentured servants or serfs who would be deported if they quit their farm jobs.

How’s that doing these people any favors?????

I don’t trust the Senate. These guys are full on swamp and are invested financially and otherwise in keeping the status quo on immigration. I firmly believe Trump would have the wall done by now if his own party supported the effort.

[A search of voting rolls in our county has revealed green card holders who are registered Democrats.]

Deport a few thousand ineligible voters who voted illegally, and the problem will go away. Of course, that would require political spine and action from the relevant agencies. I’m not holding my breath.

This is a back door amnesty bill disguised as a farm bill. It may pass in the socialist Democrat House so we need to stop it if it reaches the Senate. Call or email your state’s Republican US senators and tell them not to vote yes on this bill. Only a tidal wave of opposition from constituents gets their attention.

I grew up in Minnesota. Now,
before I get flamed (for my
state of origin), when I was
a young teenager, these type of
jobs were expected from families
where it wasn’t uncommon to have
large families. The reason was to
handle the workload.
Highschool kids could easily fill
the demands for farm laborers. The
farmers are guilty of utilizing cheap
labor to better their bottom lines.
The problem lies with parents who
have lost sight of how hard work
and some sweat leads to the beginning
of a good work ethic. They have lost
what made America great. Not one of
my 13 brothers and sisters work on
a farm any longer. But are all
successful in their endeavors,
and have encouraged their children
to do whatever it takes to put
food on the table.
We don’t need foreign workers.
They can harvest crops in their
own country.
