Russia's naval operations are little improved in the last century. Check Drachinifel's "Voyage of the Damned" for the tragic story of Russia's Second Pacific Squadron retold with dry British humor.

“The ship will likely get repaired, at least to provide in-port pilot training.”

Why couldn’t it be totally repaired? Could the heat have warped the ship out of shape?

I’ll be looking for it for sale on ebay. Maybe the Chinese
or Norks will buy it.

You are right.

The steel in the internal bulkheads changes due to heat and lose their flexibility.

So you need a drydock to make repairs.

Their drydock sank.

The Russians are too broke to buy or rent another one from Sweden.

Ship fires are bad news.

It’s an almost 40 year old badly maintained ship that has just been turned into a barge. It is not worth repairing at this point.

I’ll be looking on Craigslist for it, probably can get a good deal if I don’t ask for the title.

I remember seeing a decommissioned Russian sub for sale in the early Ebay age.

Might have been a prank.

“do nuclear warheads reside within?”

It has been in the docks for overhaul, for more than a year.

It would be gross malpractice to leave the explosive ordnance on board, and I doubt that even the Russians would be so unsafe as to leave nukes on board. I don’t even think it had an express nuke delivery mission at all (but it would be like the Russians to try to jury rig some ad hoc storage/delivery means, as a surprise).

Why would a gas turbine propelled ship need boilers?

We were on deployment in the Med while she was there. Called her Admiral Pigpen because we’d see the black cloud long before she was visible.

Her ‘flight ops’ looked like a circus - deck crew in shorts, flip-flops and smoking cigarettes.
