I should add, Americans who love this country, and want it to be the best country in the world. 8>)

I lost considerable respect for Sullum with this article.

“ I was persuaded that Trump committed a serious abuse of power by pressuring the Ukrainian government to investigate a political rival, partly by withholding congressionally approved military aid.”

The author has the decency, at least, to let everyone know plainly that he is an imbecile whose thoughts and written words aren’t worthy of the Streets of San Francisco.

Sot it is the author's (Jacob Sullum), opinion that the president should look the other way when he hears of high ranking officials stealing money from the US Treasury by sending aid money to a foreign country, bribing officials of that country to partner in a scheme to kick back hugh portions of the aid money.

In simple terms, stealing from the US Treasury by laundering it through a foreign country.

The reason Pelosi is going nuts is that many others besides the Biden family are involved. Remember the stories of money meant for Haitian relief that instead ended up in the Clinton's pockets.

Investigations are like brush fires in that there are no little ones. They spread and burn everything unless stopped, and the dims plan to stop this investigation at all costs because if it continues, they are going to get burned.

Rubio should have been replaced after his amnesty vote with a Senator that sides with the citizens and the rule of law.

.............
Also, when did politicians acquire immunity from investigation just because the official seeking it is a political rival? Here, Biden and son deserved to be investigated. And Trump was not expecting Ukrane to produce fake evidence or to spy on them — at most, he just wanted Ukrane to come forward with what they already had. What’s wrong with that?

I don’t understand the whole quid-pro-quo argument. Other than commander in chief and domestic, the presidents entire foreign role is quid-pro-quo. It’s his job to get other countries to give when they get. You either get a lack of military action, money, or trade if you do what we want.

“There are many ways in which a president can violate the public trust without violating the law.”

And the cure for almost all of them is to vote him out of office at the next scheduled election. The only time impeachment is appropriate is if the danger to the republic of his remaining in office is likely, imminent and severe. I can think of no time in US history where all those things were true. And when they’re not all true, let the People decide.

I was persuaded that Trump committed a serious abuse of power by pressuring the Ukrainian government to investigate a political rival,
——
Weak, but arguable in part in regards asking for an investigation of a rival. Falls on its face through clear lack of pressure.

partly by withholding congressionally approved military aid.

Just stupid.

Since Rubio voted — with almost all of his fellow Republicans — against hearing witnesses or seeking relevant documents, he could not credibly complain that the evidence was inadequate to prove the allegations against the president. I
——
Well that’s stupid too. He might argue that Rubio couldn’t argue uncertainty, or couldn’t argue that new evidence exonerated or condemned the President; but the Responsibility for the House was to create a complete case to support their contention - which they did not, and it was clearly the case. The House case glossed over key steps in the logic of the case and merely assumed they were so, creating fatal falsehoods.

Nothing is wrong with that.

Evidence of a crime doesn’t take 2d place to a political campaign
