No trap. The President knows spring is nearly here and it isn’t in fact going to get bigger.

The downslope trend has already begun.

Evidence, real evidence...... Apple resumed full production in China

Your welcome I’m a scientist I don’t do panic. I want accurate numbers and transparency in our government. So that I can make logical informed decisions. I’m also married into a Mormon family we all have at least a year of preparations for the time of trials and tribulations. It’s not looked down in the Mormon community to have such in fact it is expected as a tenant of faith.

“china is no longer “shutdown” ... examples: Apple products production has fully resumed and starbucks have all reopened in china ...”

Do you have a link to Foxconn? I remember reading that they’re at 30% worker level. Starbucks is symbolic...meaningless, other than as a propaganda tool.

My buddy Greg is a ME his company fly in parts from China on the regular they are sterilizing them when they get them chemically out of an abundance of caution read the lawyers are making them.

Here is what actual science has to say...

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sciencealert.com/study-shows-just-how-long-coronaviruses-can-stick-around-on-a-surface/amp

“Reviewing the literature on all available human and veterinary viruses within this family, encompassing 22 studies, researchers have found that the human pathogens can persist on surfaces and remain infectious at room temperature for up to nine days. (To put that in perspective, the measles virus can live on contaminated surfaces for up to two hours.)

Granted, that’s the upper end of a coronavirus lifespan, but on average, researchers say this family of viruses can survive between four and five days on various materials like aluminium, wood, paper, plastic and glass.
Some of the veterinary coronaviruses - the ones that can only infect animals - could even persist for longer than 28 days.”

> The President knows spring is nearly here and it isn’t in fact going to get bigger. <

That is an interesting argument. But the very best we can hope for in this uncertain world is that it *probably* won’t get bigger.

In the meantime, why not take some common-sense precautions, like limiting incoming air travel from infected countries? For every one American that would complain about that, ten would applaud.

I see it sort of like buying home insurance. The chances of my home catching fire is very low. Yet I buy home insurance. It is not from fear. It is just a sensible precaution.

Never mind - I see where Cook said it...and his stock broke even Friday. Let’s see how it performs next week, as the insiders obviously know what’s going on.

But the world went from zero people infected with Spanish flu to roughly 500,000,000 people infected with it in about 18 months,

Same thing with normal flu, and we saw nothing like that kind of spread in China for two months (Dec and Jan). The other issue is testing and control. With orders of magnitude better testing and control we will have much lower numbers than 1918.

We're not China....you do grasp that I suspect. We know this ‘could’ escalate here but how we handle it is certainly not how China or other countries will and do who do not have the medical, science and facilities we do. Nor do they view their populations nor their industries the same...as well their economical outlook pertaining to a possible lull in production etc of that nature.

Further our history shows we have surmounted crisis situations and recovered from many threats of the past. That speaks for the current situation as well which affords us far advanced means to cope with and prevent any disruptions from getting too far out of hand.

Additionally this will certainly show us any weaknesses in the established system which needs to be adjusted or changed for the future, just as all of these types of events do.

“This is why Israel thinks they will have a working vaccine in a few weeks”

the U.S. too will have at least one (and probably more) vaccines for this coronavirus within a couple of months, but assuming these work, that’s the “easy” part these days given the level of molecular knowledge of viruses and the near science-fiction level of tools (both research and manufacturing) ... the “hard” part is the testing trials for human safety and efficacy, because human testing trial protocols are quite involved and take several months to produce the necessary results ...

then there’s the time to manufacture in bulk and widely distribute, though fortunately new manufacturing techniques can bypass egg culture and can quickly manufacture in bulk using recombinate DNA techniques ...

What do you mean no one is going to die?

I read the comments here on FR carefully.

Half of us are going to be dead before the election.

Can you imagine how long the Freepathons are going to last with half of us gone?

Bloomberg won't beat Trump on the economy even if the correction lasts into the summer. If we are in recession in summer then Trump would be vulnerable with any challenger, including crazy Bernie.

This type of market shock is fairly unique so we don't have a lot to compare against. But in general the steeper the drop right now, the steeper the recovery in a month after some bottom testing time.

The economy is a different animal than the market although related. A month or two drop in consumer spending is not a problem because consumers can make it up later. If businesses stop investing then that's a problem. I don't see that as likely, yet.

The reason is that the precautions you note are unnecessary.

The action taken is adequate to do the job.

I suppose you did not watch the two Presidential news conferences where the best minds in the world indicated the risk was low and then listed actions taken

If you did not watch them, go to You tube and find the one for yesterday. Unless you are a communist unbeliever, the video will set you mind at ease

Actually, I can do better than that

Here’s the link. It’s important and worth the 52 minutes

“Starbucks is symbolic...meaningless”

Symbolic yes, meaningless no, because starbucks is a place where people socialize without actual need to socialize (like say going to the grocery store or doctor), so it indicates that normal socialization amongst fiends, family, neighbors and strangers is normalizing ...

here’s a gazillion links referencing apple production in china resuming”

https://www.google.com/search?q=tim+cook+apple+production+china

only articles on foxconn production in china are a week or older, and they say foxconn production was resuming in china, starting a week ago ... one could speculate that foxconn is mostly back in production and therefore is no longer “news”, because good news isn’t “news” ...

China numbers are likely going to be what we’re looking at as well regarding factory closing, empty stores, etc. It’s unprecedented globally.

Now, either we realize this was the fault of relying on globalization or the elites will use it as an excuse to curtail civil liberties and grab even more power.

Israel has different rule than here they are saying 90 days till humans, got to hand it to them they don’t do bureaucracy like we do here. If the Jewish people need something the Israeli government gets to it. One of the key benefits to have a common race, religion, and culture

Many on this forum bought into the crisis mongering, helping the angst to spread, even among some “Conservatives”.

People of little faith either in us as a nation or in how advanced our modern abilities have become.

Cov-19 is minor crisis that will be mitigated and overcome, because doing that is what we are fully capable of doing.

Now is the time to buy stocks the silly stock market has depressed. You can sell some of them again when their prices go back up, after sanity returns to Wall Street; and then re-balance your portfolio back to your previous hold positions.

“My buddy Greg is a ME his company fly in parts from China on the regular they are sterilizing them when they get them chemically out of an abundance of caution read the lawyers are making them.

given that they’re flown in rather than floated in, it’s probably not a bad idea to be overly cautious at this point given the lack of definitive data on survivability of the virus on surfaces ...

as the infection proceeds into western democracies, we should have reliable data about lots of things related to that virus within a few months ...

Ok, hardly no one will die. But they will all be over 85. So FR will be decimated. Lol.
