WLOS ^ | March 21st 2020 | Staff

ABC link, excerpted.

PHASE 1

Beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2020, all hotels, motels, resorts, inns, Air- BnB, Homeway, VRBO, guest houses, campgrounds, RV Parks, Vacation Cabin rentals and any other short-term rentals in Graham County will be closed, EXCEPT for persons needing accommodation with a legitimate work-related stay.

Business owners, contractors and emergency service workers who expect to have employees needing to make reservations for a stay in Graham County will need to provide a work related identification badge from their employer along with a letter from the employer stating the purpose of the work to be performed in the County.

If employers, emergency service workers or contractors have multiple employees needing to stay in the accommodation, one letter with the names of the employees will be sufficient, however, all employees will need to show the accommodation owner proper work identification. If the employer does not have proper identification for their employees, then they will need to contact the County Manager’s office at becky.garland@grahamcounty.org until further notice to provide additional documentation (i.e. contracts for work or other documentation to prove the business purpose).

PHASE 2

Beginning on Friday, March 27, 2020, checkpoints will be established at entry points to Graham County and no visitors will be allowed access. Permanent residents, non-resident property owners and non-resident employees of Graham County businesses, and non- resident vendors will be allowed access to Graham County. Vendors and business traffic will be allowed by permit. Staff is working to activate an online permitting system and will provide further guidance no later than Monday, March 23, 2020 at 5 p.m. In addition, timing of the road closures will likewise be provided no later than 5:00 pm on Monday, March 23, 2020.

Graham County is one of the most remote of the NC mountain counties. Population around 9,000. There's one grocery store in the entire county.

The county commissioners and sheriff's office are shutting it down to outsiders. If you don't live there and don't have a valid business reason to be visiting you are not getting in.

This is RIDICULOUS.

The abuse of power accompanying coronavirus is much worse than the illness could EVER be.

It sure came to that quickly, didn't it?

There is NO mention about the exit strategy for all these lockdowns. Initially they said "two week" but that's a ridiculous joke. Try 12 to 18 months. And, after people start going out and congregating again, what prevents it from re-igniting? With everybody confined to quarters, nobody will get sick and there is no herd immunity.

Look for a massive resistance to this before long.

Not to mention mission creep. At first the social distancing was to “flatten the curve”. And, pretty soon, if not already the mission will be to keep everyone safe (protect every single life). When and how will this end? Will the entire economy be shut down for months, maybe two years? This is
not rational.

Will someone please tell me why I should not go out tomorrow and hoard essential supplies?

We were camping down by Fort Huachuca last weekend when the SHTF. It was dispersed camping so we weren’t officially in a campground, but we were joking that if worse came to worst, we could always live in our tents. Now they’re trying to shut that down too? WTF is going on here?

"When and how will this end?"

This is becoming a classical tar-baby problem.

EXPLANATION: The Tar-Baby is the second of the Uncle Remus stories published in 1881; it is about a doll made of tar and turpentine used by the villainous Br'er Fox to entrap Br'er Rabbit. The more that Br'er Rabbit fights the Tar-Baby, the more entangled he becomes.

In modern usage, tar baby refers to a problematic situation that is only aggravated by additional involvement with it.

Sheesh. Ridiculous.

Do you or does anyone know how Asheville, NC is doing in terms of Coronavirus cases?

Have a niece who is there in a facility but who may need to come home to Raleigh. I don’t know the county that Asheville is in.
