is the compulsion to post vanities a symptom of Coronavirus?
Joe? Joe Biden is that you?
B. Is what mostly what S. Korea is doing...
*sigh* there are DIFFERENT kinds of masks
The ones you typically see at the hardware store WONT DO ANYTHING against a virus but make you “feel” safer.
The special masks they are talking about are the ones that are needed and are in short supply.
We’re f*cked no matter what we do. The DEMs will blockade relief as much as possible, taking the stock markets and US economy along the way. Not one of these bastards will be taken out. Everyone is predicting long shutdown times. 6 weeks to 3 months. We won’t survive that long of a shutdown, and it may be by design. I just hope all gun owners who claimed they would start a civil war should the DEMs destroy the country are up to that talk. Otherwise, we’re done.
You have lost you’re mind.
There’s a huge difference between the exposure in my day and health care workers don’t you think!
The wearing of masks in Asia is a common occurrence. A great many wear masks as a matter of routine. Especially, in the less developed countries and their very overcrowded major cities.
Those cities air is heavy with pollution and the masks are used as filters to minimize larger particulates from entering their lungs.
Because the wearing of masks in Asian countries is a common daily thing masks are in abundant supply.
Even in the more developed Asian countries, the wearing of masks during the cold and flu season is a very common thing.
This is not the case in most countries outside of Asia so, mask supplies are geared towards the medical community and even within that community only a subset routinely wear masks so, the supply of them is geared towards that level of use.
If suddenly, there is an unplanned need desire by many, many millions of people wishing to wear masks (which are not reusable) there is no way this unplanned demand can be met in a short period of time.
Even in countries where mask-wearing is far more common a sudden panic like this can overwhelm the system which is why the Chinese stopped shipping masks out of China two weeks ago. And, of course, they are the main suppliers of these masks to the world.
Government is not the answer for every situation.

Wow, you got badly flamed! Four pointless insults and two irrelevant responses. I don’t totally agree with you, but you make a good point.
It’s the second most common system
No, just travel:
check.
On January 27th, when I read an article out of China saying their experts at the level 4 facility right there in Wuhan would soon solve the problem, I went put and bought N95 masks at the home improvement store. I instructed family members to do the same. Some found them at similar stores and others at big box stores.
What’s the point of that story? N95 masks were in all kinds of stores for those paying attention. N95 masks are exactly the ones they want for health care workers. N95 masks made for construction use are now deemed acceptable for health care.
Not all masks were N95 but most I saw were making your statement wrong. The ones that are nearly worthless in protecting you from infection are the thin surgical masks. Those work only if everyone is wearing one and therefore keeping their germs to themselves.
In the future know the topic before making blanket statements.
I looked quickly & assumed it was humblegunner. Just carrying on the tradition......
I’ve been perplexed at how the medical community says “masks do not help, but we need masks.”
N95 masks are for sale on Amazon for less than $10.
Assume a very high quality mask-goggle set costs $20, and that 300 million sets are needed, for a total cost of $6 billion.
Add a generous $4 billion in order to expedite/ship and for overhead and profit, for a total of $10 billion.
To handle any contingencies, double that to $20 billion.
It seems that American industry as a group could accomplish this within 2 or 3 weeks.
I must admit that the resultant savings would be only $3.98 trillion, rather than the full $4 trillion.
nope. but, now that you bring it up, there’s a guy that’s certainly languishing in his innermost circle of hell right now.
...If suddenly, there is an unplanned need desire by many, many millions of people wishing to wear masks (which are not reusable)...

Sorry...they are definitely reusable (I.e., wear multiple times). My family have N95 masks which are disposable. We use them multiple times after sanitizing them between uses. We sterilize them using an ultraviolet light container specifically designed for that purpose. The difference between the disposable masks and non-disposable masks is that for the non-disposables you only replace the filter element.
I saw two doctors interviewed on Fox News and they said they used them multiple times to stretch out their supplies. They sterilized their masks by heavily spraying them with alcohol. The alcohol evaporates leaving behind sterilized, fully functional masks.
So many people are complete babies when it comes to this subject.
