“..even though there is no robust evidence to prove that it is effective against Covid-19.”

Au contraire there is evidence (mostly studies on SARS1 and observations regarding SARS2) and “robust” is not required to show efficiency.

I guess the message to take from this is that Trump is killing Lupus patients.

Can you imagine anyone telling DjT that this “proven efficacious” drug (controlled tests or not) will be withheld while establishment medicine reproves what we already know as hundreds or thousands die ?

That’s not gonna’ “effectuate”.

Remarkable how the entire left is in perfect sync over chloroquine. They all hate it. They hate the possibility that it would offer a cure. Every single one of them.

And of course it’s obvious why. It threatens their precious crisis.

to make money you use as few machines as possible running at maximum (85%) output.

I think a lot of makers do not give each drug its own continually -running production line. They do batches. Set up for drug A, put ingredients in the hoppers, make a batch, store it in warehouse, then shift to drug B.

“...besides the much-hyped malaria.”

It is estimated that over 200 million people worldwide are afflicted with Malaria.

Hardly “much hyped”.

They’re making more. I’ve read of at least three pharmaceutical companies that were starting production runs of HCQ. IIRC they expected to have new product ready to ship in early April.

The use of the Hydroxychloroquine Azithromycin combination to treat COVID-19 is now supported by a second study with 80 patients.

https://www.mediterranee-infection.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/COVID-IHU-2-1.pdf

Well worth taking the time to read it. It could save your life or the life of a loved one.

P.S. My cousin’s wife is currently in a hospital in Madrid, Spain with COVID-19. She’s being given Hydroxychloroquine and iv antibiotics. She’s making a remarkable recovery and expects to be discharged sometime next week.

That’s great news, not a whole lot of good news coming out of Spain these days.

People with lupus only take the drug during a flare up

No robust evidence”

They are doing this in France. The French just released a definitive study of 80 people for whom this treatment worked well. The media doesn’t want it to work well, because President Trump suggested that it very well might. He was trying to instill help. The mediaJust try to instill despair. Meanwhile, we have to twiddle our thumbs while we wait on the damned FDA’s approval. And people are dying when we have a cure. It’s that simple.

First, they say it is “unproven”. Second, “Trump said it’s a cure”. Third, evidence must be “robust”.

Three straight up falsehoods. There’s growing evidence (during a crisis). PDJT NEVER said “it’s a cure” and what qualifies as “robust” before you try it?

More importantly, are people with Lupus saying people with CV should die when they won’t?

I so hate the media.

Vital?

This medication is also used, usually with other medications, to treat certain auto-immune diseases (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis) when other medications have not worked or cannot be used.

Maybe it's vital in England where the cheap bastards won't pay for the most efficacious drug to treat anything, but I don't believe that it is "vital' or a 'mainstay' of treatment in any other first world non socialized medicine country. My mother has lupus and has never been prescribed hydroxychloroquine as treatment for it.

hey England why not step into the modern world of medicine for all those Brits not wealthy enough to afford private healthcare.............oh yeah that's right because socialized medicine can't afford it.

Another one walks into the prison of two ideas and handcuffs himself to the bars.

There are about a zillion ways to increase production quickly, without shutting down existing HCQ processes.

The simplest is to convert a facility making ANOTHER TYPE OF PILL.

Maybe in the near term we don’t need quite so much Viagra and Cialis, for example!

Now availability of raw materials may be a different issue, manufacturing capacity is most definitely not.
