Needs to be given early, on an outpatient basis, with Zinc, *before* rampant inflammation results in a cytokine storm and lesions on the lung. It is given to PREVENT these. If they give it after the damage to the lungs is already done, the results are in question.

I really don’t see the issue with Queensland’s ruling. The hospitals will be using the drug there, so the ones in most need will get it. No one’s life is being sacrificed.

The problem with handing it out too easily is that the supply is limited, and Australia, like the USA, is dependent on other countries to get more, namely India and China.

While relatively uncommon the side effects can be serious, so it should be used carefully with monitoring.

After the announcement by President Trump there was evidence some doctors here were handling it out to family and friends and a run on the supply started. That’s why more controls were put on it.

I understand your point, but you may have forgotten something that is all too common in the literature, that the “mechanism of effectiveness is not completely understood” in so many medications. I was just reading earlier today on how the mechanism by which Tylenol controls fever is no better understood than the mechanism by which it controls pain. There are some fascinating theories on how it works.

I have read alternate theories on the antiviral action of chloroquines on sars type viruses. My preferred theory, the more I read sounds less and less plausible to me.

One fact that supports your point is that right now we got nuthin else and the standard anti-virals are disappointing especially according to the standard by which Plaquenil is seen as effective.
