Dogs, even pit bulls, can be taught impulse control. I suspect that teaching children impulse inhibition for 30 minutes a day during the first year of school, or preschool if possible, would transform millions of children from ferals into potentially productive humans, saving millions of lives, and billion$ on police, courts, and prisons.
Again, don’t commit felonies with your gun, and you won’t be charge for that.

Precisely. Great point. There’s no screaming about “Knife Violence”, yet statistically knives are more frequently used than guns. Easier to obtain and conceal.
“Gun Violence” is just weasel-wording to specifically demonize firearms in the minds of people.
In most states, you would still be considered armed, even if you had a knife, or a flame thrower or a crossbow.
If you threaten the bank teller with a gun, you would be booked for armed robbery
