Anti-lockdown protests break out in London, Warsaw, other European cities as Coronavirus shutdowns linger

Amid increasing frustration over lockdown measures to curb the coronavirus pandemic, multiple protests took place across Europe on Saturday to demand businesses reopen.

In Warsaw, Poland, law enforcement used tear gas on protesters, while police made arrests at a demonstration in London's Hyde Park.

Police in several German cities enforced distancing rules as thousands of people gathered to vent anger over economies in freefall and perceived losses of freedom.

Police in Stuttgart said that the number of demonstrators exceeded the permitted threshold of 5,000; they directed other protesters to another open space. Police said they were enforcing a mask requirement under threat of a 300-euro ($325) fine.

The permitted number of 1,000 protesters also was reached in Munich at the site of the now-canceled Oktoberfest beer festival. It was one of a number of gatherings across the southern state of Bavaria.

Dozens of people, including a senator, were detained during a protest by business owners in the Polish capital against coronavirus restrictions, while police used tear gas against protesters. Warsaw officials said the gathering was illegal because they had not approved it.

In Britain, anti-lockdown and anti-vaccine protesters held a gathering in Hyde Park in central London and were met by a heavy police presence.

The protesters chanted "Freedom" and held handmade signs. Some sat on the grass and had picnics while observing social-distancing guidelines while others ignored the rules and gathered in groups.

Officers tried to disperse the groups, threatening them with fines if they didn't comply. They arrested 13 people, the London Metropolitan Police Service said.

perceived losses of freedom

Perceived? Perceived?! I'm glad it's just our perception that we are being "locked down", forced to "socialist distance", forced to wear useless masks, and deprived of the ability to earn a living and live our lives...

That line stuck out for me too. I guess all the closed churches and shuttered businesses are just a matter of perception.

Author = idiot.

Good for all these people who don’t have a job and have time to do this I applaud them

These protests are only going to grow in size and scope until everything is back to normal and it’s going to be looked at 100% liberal totalitarians who are trying to keep people locked in their house and not have the freedom to live their life

The interesting thing in Europe is the liberals don’t have Donald Trump to be against and so there is much more free wheeling and less organized and of course you have all those different countries so you have this different cultures as well

It has turned out that the Imperial model was always wrong. I just read this from a report from the British government. ALL of this was a big “mistake” and America has been destroyed by a British a-hole who NEVER got any models correct. The American left took these numbers and simply took advantage of the crisis.

The lockdown was sold to the public as a means of flattening the curve. Well, that has happened, and now the goalposts have been moved by those with a statist agenda. Just like the safety Nazis and both the 55 MPH limit and seatbelts. Just like taxes in 1913 (only the rich will be taxed) and guns (ALWAYS sold as “we are only going after criminals, not law-abiding citizens, and also “ we aren’t going to take your guns” - but then they do, or tighten the screws even more).

See the pattern? [Yes, I know that those here and on FR generally do].

Except for recently, when in the history of humanity has there been a mass quarantine of the healthy?

They don't make angry mobs like they used to in 1780.

Niel Ferguson actually has a HISTORY of sky high death estimates.

His projections led to millions of British livestock killed due to hoof and mouth disease projections. And it turned out inspectors were spreading it through unsterilized shoes.

He predicted up to fifty thousand dead from mad cow disease.

He predicted up to 200 million dead from bird flu. Note that’s worse than the Wuhan virus and they still didn’t lock everything down.

That is an excellent point. Why is this guy's prediction for Wuhan Flu, even when it was 100,000-150,000 deaths, causing a "lockdown", when his past prediction of 200 MILLION deaths did not?

Oh, wait, I know why... Orange Man Bad.

And yes, I know the 200 million was a global number, and the 100,000-150,000 was for the US only, but the point remains.
