Unfortunately that's what makes it a largely internal matter. England could raise the issue, but I doubt they will. And it's moot in a few years anyway.
England should show concern that its treaty with China is being abrogated.
The world community should back them up. (but won’t...)
Four US presidents built up this wanna-be modern day evil empire. With Trump they ran into a wall.
Could, though I believe HSBC is now headquartered in London.
This is a HUGE issue on China’s part, but American’s are not going to die for Taiwan or Hong Kong ... not gonna happen
What exactly can we do? Hong Kong is attached to China. Thats one reason why this whole foreign interference seems so disingenuous.
The French helped us back in the 1700s, but the brits were as far away as the French were.
Basically, Hong Kong is resisting the Nazis while being part of Germany.
Never let a virus crisis go to waste ...
The smart ones in HK have obtained US Canadian UK or Australian citizenship and will bail out. S. China doesnt really like the Commie Bejiners much anyway. They would revolt to if they could.
What can we do? We can rescind the special trading policies that the US has in place with Hong Kong if the CCP takes over, denying them the monetary profits that China would receive in business as usual.
Otherwise, we can crank up the tariffs and begin full sanctioning of certain Chinese items produced in Shenzhen and Guangzhou where the PLA has concentrated its forces (and production companies).
We can make this economically unpalatable as much as possible - it wont stop the CCP - ask the citizens of Tibet or Macau.
And we need to formally recognize and enter military basing agreements with Taiwan. I can see our President doing this if China takes Hong Kong early.
And I guess thats the issue. Hong Kong is literally fighting Nazis.
“Hong Kong is part of China” is the leftist slogan.
Correct, in spite of its name (Hong Kong-Shanghai Banking Corporation).
Sure, just like no Americans died to rescue Hungary from the USSR.
I seem to recall that Douglas MacArthur said “there is no substitute for victory”. The USA seemed to have fled from that notion very quickly after WWII.
China needs cutting off from the US economy. Take the hit, learn the lesson and move on. We did not spread freedom, we created a monster and strengthened an enemy.
Time to cut losses.
Gracefully surrender the things of youth: birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan.
Will the peaceful abolition of private property be possible? These are the seductive words the commies used and still used towards what Lenin termed useful idiots. Any heinous violence on the part of the commies comes about because they were driven to such acts, they say.
It would be desirable if this could happen, and the communists would certainly be the last to oppose it. Communists know only too well that all conspiracies are not only useless, but even harmful. They know all too well that revolutions are not made intentionally and arbitrarily, but that, everywhere and always, they have been the necessary consequence of conditions which were wholly independent of the will and direction of individual parties and entire classes.
But they also see that the development of the proletariat in nearly all civilized countries has been violently suppressed, and that in this way the opponents of communism have been working toward a revolution with all their strength. If the oppressed proletariat is finally driven to revolution, then we communists will defend the interests of the proletarians with deeds as we now defend them with words.
The Principles of Communism
Red China will take over Hong Kong and there is little the US and other western countries can do about this. We can set tariffs and sanctions but little else.
We should make it plain to the Chinese communists that taking over Taiwan will be resisted as an act of war to deter that from happening. Only re-election of Mr. Trump for another 4 years will deter Red China as to Taiwan as the Democrats won’t do anything to stand up to China.
That sucks. Better go to war now or something.
LOL!
