Militarily? I doubt it. Other than that, they've no real leverage.
Which vision will the Chinese people choose? That of Hong Kong, or that of the corrupt powers that be?
I know who the UN is and which side it would take. I mention it because England registered their treaty with China with the UN. That’s where they, England, would take a dispute. Which would go nowhere.
They (The CCP) dont care about Hong Kong. They want to move all of the financial services to Shanghai.
More doubltalk idiocy from you.
Grant American citizenship to every citizen of Hong Kong.
“Explain to me how many Americans need to die to protect Taiwan and Hong Kong.”
You propagandists are so obvious.
You gonna be jumping into or landing on Taiwan with us and the Marines, tough guy? You ready to take a bullet for the Taiwanese? If not, why not?
To fight and conquer in all our battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemys resistance without fighting. That is the manner of warfare they have used against us for many decades; is it not open to us also?
The Art Of War, III:2
No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. But like I said, we still have the opportunity to turn Red Chinas tactics back on them.
Speech to 6th Armored Divison, 05/31/1944
You are not all going to die. Only two percent of you right here today would be killed in a major battle. Every man is scared in his first action. If he says hes not, hes a goddamn liar. But the real hero is the man who fights even though hes scared. Some men will get over their fright in a minute under fire, some take an hour, and for some it takes days. But the real man never lets his fear of death overpower his honor, his sense of duty to his country, and his innate manhood.
Speech to 3rd Army, June 1944
War is war. That means combat. That means things blowing up and people being killed. If you’re implying using the D, I, and E of DIME instead of the M, then you need to clarify your thought. Quoting Patton doesn’t help either since he’s obviously known for war.
The way I see it, this is down to whether or not the Communists can deliver on their promises to the Chinese people, and Hong Kong offering a viable alternative when nobody wants to deal with CCP types anymore. Just how attached is the average Chinese person to the little princelings and queenlings prancing around playing wolf warrior?
Yes, they’ve done a great deal in Shanghai the last few decades. Kind of a second Hong Kong for foreign business and tourism.
Even if they could economically, it would still be a police state. But I don’t think any of the emerging middle class looks to Hong Kong as a model. They seem to be interested in shopping mostly. Capitalism has it’s benefits. May not mind being in a police state for now. The rural and urban poor is probably the greater threat.
The handwriting has been on the wall for a while. The smart money started leaving Hong Kong two years ago.
Once again, bs from ChiCom lovers.
They are part of Red China. I’m not aware of a nation on earth that disputes that. Including the US. And England who has standing there. I’m not aware of a viable Hong Kong independence movement, armed or otherwise. Barring something completely unexpected sometime in the 27 years Hong Kong will simply be another city in Red China.
DNC applauds it and says “It’s for the children.”
Aside from a prettier harbor, Hong Kong is today indistinguishable from Shenzhen and Guangzhou in these areas. The high-end shopping malls in Guangzhou will make your eyes pop out of your head - we have nothing equal to them in the USA.
The only difference is the surviving independent streak in Hong Kong politics and media, which totally freaks out the CCP. They are desperate to stamp out any dangerous spark of rebellion, just as the previous emperors were. And they are making a huge financial mistake in doing so.
The party seems to have spawned a particularly obnoxious variety of affluenza.
