The Senate on Thursday voted to confirm Rep. John Ratcliffe as the next director of national intelligence.
Ratcliffe, R-Texas, was approved on a 49-44 vote. The installment comes as the intelligence community once again finds itself in the middle of a political firestorm, over whether Trump associates were improperly "unmasked" in intelligence reports during the latter days of the Obama administration.
Ratcliffe's nomination was voted out of the Senate Intelligence Committee earlier this week on a party-line vote of 8-7, reflecting lingering partisan tensions over the post.
The DNIs role is crucial to our national security, and I look forward to working with Director Ratcliffe as he oversees the efforts of our nations 17 intelligence agencies," acting Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said in a statement Thursday. "In a time when the threats to our nation are many and varied, it is critical to have a Senate-confirmed DNI ensuring the wide array of intelligence agencies are sharing information across lines, coordinating capabilities, and working in the furtherance of our nations security using 21st century, cutting edge capabilities."
Rubio added: "Director Ratcliffe understands this responsibility, and I am confident that he will fulfill all of the roles assigned to the DNI with integrity.
During his confirmation hearing earlier this month, Ratcliffe, R-Texas, pledged to senators that hed deliver intelligence information without bias if confirmed for the job. Ratcliffe, who was one of Trumps fiercest allies during impeachment, said he had the experience to be an independent leader of the nations 17 intelligence agencies, given his past work as a federal prosecutor.

I hope he’s as badass as Grenell.
I like 49-44 votes.
I’ve been so conditioned that I expect everyone around President Trump to turn into a Jeff Sessions, or Trey Gowdy. That is, talk a great game, but produce nothing, zero, zip, nada.
I hope so!
Grenell was outstanding. I have very high hopes and expectations for Ratcliffe. He devastated witnesses in the House impeachment hoax. He knows everything about FISA abuse and will stand with Trump on rooting corruption in the IC.
Grenell should be the next FBI director.
fire Wray - move ambassador Grenell to acting FBI director NOW.
How did Pierre Delecto vote?
“said he had the experience to be an independent leader of the nations 17 intelligence agencies, given his past work as a federal prosecutor.”
Prosecution is just what’s needed.
“Ratcliffe. He devastated witnesses in the House impeachment hoax.”
He was tremendous and the best IMHO. He should perform well and make Dan Coates look really bad.
Let Grenell get in another day or two. He has documents to release and will be unleashing hell.
Good. Now we can get on with the business of getting some ACTIONABLE intelligence back to the Commander-in-Chief, and finally establish just who and where the world troublemakers are.
Dan Coats, and his successor, Joseph Maquire, were both a disaster. Richard Grenell was a good caretaker, but unable to fully assert authority.
I understand frustration with Wray. But I see a bunch of FBI arrests in colleges across the country. Could it be that he is focusing on the Chinese.
I suspect RAT politicians will be lined up on the shore, waving goodbye to Grenell.
I hope Ratcliffe is not another loser like Jeff Sessions. Dems voted against THAT MORON too - only for Sessions to STILL do the Dems' bidding. While they attacked and mocked him regularly as he screwed Trump. Can there be a bigger IDIOT in politics than Sessions...
John is/was my rep here in Texas. He is by all measure the most honest and truthful person I have ever known. The only side he is on is the Truth, Period. It is going to be a hell of a challenge replacing him as my Rep. God bless you, John.
