I had a guy today come in to ask me about his antibody test for Covid-19. It was positive, but he’s had no symptoms, has basically been at home for two months, hasn’t gone out, and when he does he’s covered.. Knows no one with the virus. So, his company wants to know if he can return to work, or also, should he be tested for the virus now.

I am sure that his antibody is from a prior infection

The vaccine might be available by November.

Says the CDC, who couldn’t develop a test for months and prevented anyone else from developing one.

"I don’t think that’s an antibody test."

I read the article and you may be right, but the article isn’t specific. I know that Abbott came out with a Coronavirus antibody test.

OK...

Abbott PR seems to indicate that their COVID-19 test is a reference to virus, not antibodies.

Study Data on ID NOW COVID-19 Rapid Test Showing Strong Agreement to Lab-Based Molecular PCR Tests

Here’s a glowing report about Abbott antibody test.

Corrections welcome.

Here is a brief explanation of the building blocks one needs to calculate the “positive predictive value” (PPV) of an antibody test. The PPV gives the probability that you have antibodies to COVID-19, given that you tested positive for them. The formula is just an application of Bayes’ Law, which some of you may remember from a college stat class.

The article says this, “The CDC has released new guidance on antibody tests, warning that they can be wrong half the time and shouldn’t be used to inform important policy decisions.“

Don’t know where you’ve come up with 5% inaccuracy.

I’ve looked at various reports that showed stats of the antigen tests made by different companies. I can try to look for it. But, 95% was the lowest %. I read the report (not a news article) a couple of weeks ago. .

Because they’re showing a high incidence, which means a low death rate, and that doesn’t fit the narrative.

The CDC says the test is wrong half the time, but the CDC is wrong 90% of the time, so if the CDC is wrong 90% of the time that means the test is wrong????????? I remember a Star Trek episode where androids effectively blew up over a similar logic chain.

While there was a time that the CDC was a professional and trustworthy organization those days are decades in the past and now one must take anything they say with not just a grain but a whole beach of sand.
