Nationwide martial law has never been declared in our history, not even during the Civil War, and LBJ didn't want to consider it unless the 1968 election were definitely endangered by a national insurrection.
The line that has to be crossed comes if and when regular troops are called in and fail to put down an insurrection. The 1968 strategy, which I believe is still in effect, would be invoked if Army troops encountered 48 hours of successful resistance to their mission. That would permit the president to declare martial law and open up the internment camps.
That creates a logistical problem.
The McCarran Act of 1950 authorized the construction of internment camps should the balloon ever go up with respect to the Soviets. Land was acquired for these first generation internment camps, but only one was built. The assumption was that the Army Corps of Engineers could quickly build World War II-style "temporary" wooden barracks should it be necessary. But the land for these camps was sold off by the Carter Administration.
As tensions with the Soviets increased during the Reagan years, land was acquired for a second generation of camps just in case, but none were ever built. The Clinton Administration sold off the land when the Cold War ended.
The third generation of camps was constructed under the FEMA law. Had the Army met with 48 hours of successful resistance in South Central Los Angeles in 1992, the president would have had the option of ordering the clearing the neighborhood and shipping its inhabitants to the FEMA camps. What would happen to them after that was something that nobody wanted to think about.
So far, no Antifa or BLM forces have attacked Army troops and been able to capture and hold ground. If that happens for 48 hours, then...

All they were talking about was the (intentionally misnamed!) Communist Chinese Corona virus and Minneapolis burning that I deleted EVERY News program on my DVR and quit DVRing them!

The Kenyan power grab in 2012 was the tipping point for me. We are in a shooting war now, and the blacks boiling out of the urban kraals are the shock troops.
But is it a war of only one side is fighting? When will our side put down the remote and the bag of pretzels, turn off HGTV and defend their own?
Okay, then, Jim, if all of this is true, can anyone tell me WHY stocks/markets keep going up when we are in a real national crisis? Both can NOT be true. Either, we have a severe crisis on hand and the economy is in severe trouble, or we don’t have a crisis and the economy is going to be fine. Which is it? The disparity between the two leads to huge corruption in the financial sector.
Never mind. Everything in this country is corrupt. Markets correcting AFTER they sucked in more people's money. It never ends.
