Minnesota Bolsters Law Enforcement as Protests Roil U.S. After George Floyd’s Death. Authorities request another 1,000 National Guard troops in city’s biggest mobilization ever, as the U.S. Army orders hundreds of troops to be ready to deploy

MINNEAPOLIS—Minnesota officials said Saturday they were seeking additional law-enforcement resources to help keep order in a city racked by rioting and violence following the death of George Floyd on Monday.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said he was fully mobilizing the state’s National Guard following a crescendo of violence on Friday, leaving open the possibility of requesting federal troops.

Defense officials said the U.S. Army ordered hundreds of troops stationed in Fort Bragg, N.C., and Fort Drum, N.Y. to be ready to deploy within four hours to Minnesota and help quell the violence. Another two units were told to be ready to deploy within 24 hours.

Gov. Walz said that what began as peaceful gatherings early in the week to express justified outrage over the killing of Mr. Floyd had turned into destruction fomented by ideological extremists bent on destabilizing the city and attacking civil society.

“Last night was a mockery of pretending this is about George Floyd’s death or inequities or historical traumas to our communities of color,” he said.

Protests over Mr. Floyd’s death erupted in Minneapolis and cities across the U.S. Friday night into Saturday, sometimes turning violent, as demonstrators clashed with police.

In Atlanta, protesters set fire to a police car, and some vandalized CNN’s headquarters. Georgia declared a state of emergency for Fulton County early on Saturday, activating the state’s National Guard “to protect people & property in Atlanta,” said the governor on Twitter. In New York, police arrested more than 200 people, said city officials, after demonstrators set a police van on fire and threw objects at officers. At least one person was killed when someone fired into a crowd of protesters in Detroit, the Associated Press reported.

Violent crowds swarmed Minneapolis and St. Paul, lighting fires and shooting at law-enforcement officers, police said

It was never a protest. It has ceased being a riot. It is now a full bore insurrection. And it must be put down.

Screw “George Floyd’s death”.
IMHO his death has no more then 10% to do with this, as the excuse to start.

Sending troops who can’t even defend themselves in a war zone is insanity. It ignores basic principles of warfare and just puts sons and daughters out there as defenseless targets. Just let them burn until the Phoenix rises.

When you don’t give the police or NG bullets, this is what happens. Protesting is fully allowed and supported. When it gets to arson, looting and shooting, it is a riot. When they say it is against the government, it is insurrection. Riot needs be put down, as harshly as needed, no abuse, but mass arrests and actual charges made without a catch and release format is what is needed. Lincoln did not say well, too bad you had to fire on Sumpter so we will just take our forces and leave. Don’t work that way. The CSA should have gone to court. With Taney as SC chief, they could have won.

Yes I noticed that as well when I was watching him and the mayor this morning. They would keep stating that “white supremacists” had invaded their city and state and were responsible for the chaos. Never once mentioned Antifa or BLM. Spit!

That’ll make it easier to transport little old women knocked off their wheelchairs to the hospital, and to put out fires after the rioters have finished looting and setting fire to buildings.

Too bad they don’t plan to use the troops to stop the burning/stealing/assaults.

They have not used the cops they have. I would not send any of mine to their aid. Use yours and if that proves not to be enough, then we can talk.

If the insurrectionist body count isn’t > 20, then Law Enforcement hasn’t been “bolstered” enough.
