Des Moines police came face to face with demonstrators who gathered to protest the death of George Floyd. He's the Minneapolis black man who died while in police custody.
Downtown Des Moines streets are clean again Saturday following a night of chaos. Several businesses and cars were damaged when a peaceful rally became a riot...Those hundreds started marching down Court Avenue eastbound, and when they got to the police officer who was helping block off the road at East 2nd Street and Court Avenue for the protest, police said people attacked that officer, swarming his cruiser, jumping up and down on top of it and trying to smash windows and get to him.
According to police, the officer deployed pepper spray out the window, which put the crowd back, but things escalated from there.
People were seen throwing rocks and bottles at police, causing minor injuries to officers...

Never mind the pepper spray...use vomiting gas.
In friggen IOWA??? Are they throwing corn cobs?
Iowa is a purple State, regardless 98% of schools teach leftism. The sink is in every significant size city.
Stupid.
Meant “make out,” not see.
Sorry, allergies bad today. I feel like I’m breathing through a mask.
Interesting how the MSM labels violent mayhem as mostly peaceful protest
I guess if they don’t riot within the first ten seconds it’s called peaceful.
I’m shocked I tell ya’. Proabably more of them undercover white naught-Zees starting trouble.
You know, we’ve had a couple of killings by the police in Iowa in the last several years that many sensible people considered outrageous and unjustifiable. The fatalities were white boys. Shrugs. Crickets. Nobody gave a damn. But they sure can have a riot over one that happened in a completely different state.
I got out of the city (Des Moines, actually) permanently in 2008. Best decision I ever made. There may not be a whole lot going on where I live, but what does go on is civil and rational every day.
The lockdown help set this up. 40 million jobs lost and people locked down. And This is not Spontaneous. Word has gone out. Its getting serious now years of leftist BS spewing out is boiling over.
“Thomas Michael Franklin “Frank” Cownie (born 1948) is the current mayor of Des Moines, Iowa.[1] He also owns and operates Cownie Furs, a store that has been in his family for generations. “
“While Iowa’s city elections are non-partisan, Cownie is a Democrat. “
Why complain when your city is already a ‘Rat Utopia? Hold the local politicians accountable.
My step-mom lives in Iowa City. She says it is a liberal pit there, these days.
I’m sure it is. Most cities are these days.
Cities are for the Land of the Free stuff and Home of the Handouts.
Iowa city has always been thus...
Agreed on all points.
I would add, that one of the single biggest catalyst to this spreading beyond Minneapolis so quickly and violently, was the video and images of a police station in Minneapolis being abandoned and then trashed and burned.
Very symbolic.
It made the Antifa types think they finally gained major momentum and now was the time to go all in because the images of police doing nothing....and then actually giving up their "fort" to the rioters, they felt they had actually won a major battle, and they did.
That mayor needs to be investigated by the feds. Whomever gave the order to abandon a police station, instead of re-enforcing it...with orders to shoot anyone who breached their police line, should be charged with dereliction of duty in the least.
My daughter and her family live in Des Moines in the downtown area. Yes, lots of white normal people. But... some four blocks away from their home is Martin Luther King Drive. Yep, go down that road a mile or so and you see lots of black faces. And they're not going to be sitting on their porch with watermelon and corn cobs while this situation is brewing. So they'll go to East Village (what they call the area around the state capital building) and smash windows there. A bit smarter than the folks in Cincinnati. Helps that city buses that go to East Village are free to use.
