In downtown Chicago, people crawled through the partially shattered exterior window of a Nike store and ran out carrying brightly colored athletic gear and sneakers.
On Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, they ignited garbage cans and broke locks on luxury stores, sweeping up armfuls of designer handbags and jeans.
And as night fell on Minneapolis, the heart of widening protests set off by the death of an African-American man in police custody there, business owners stood outside their doors and pleaded with agitators to spare the enterprises that many said they had spent their life savings to build.
I was outside saying, Please, I dont have insurance! said Hussein Aloshani, an immigrant from Iraq, waving his arms in frustration as he recounted the scene Friday night outside the deli his family owns.
Businesses across the country suffered destruction over the weekend as protesters unleashed their anger over the death of George Floyd on commercial enterprises from the offices of major multinational corporations and banks to family-owned restaurants and bars.
In some places, demonstrators scrawled graffiti on storefronts decrying police brutality against African-Americans, or echoing some of Mr. Floyds final words: I cant breathe.
In others, they hurled crowbars and hammers at windows, and used gasoline to burn buildings to the ground.
Public officials said they were investigating whether political agitators posing as protesters may have led some of the looting. In some cities, peaceful protesters marching against police violence were outnumbered by others, such as white anarchists, who seemed more bent on destruction than messaging.
Regardless of who the perpetrators were, many store owners said they felt like the victims of misplaced aggression. They said their businesses, already ailing from an outbreak of the coronavirus that has been particularly devastating to small and minority-owned businesses, may not recover...

How many cops murdered since the last Antifa riots? No one rioted to protest them. Violent protesters need a lead reminder of that.
They are not protestors “unleasing their anger.” They are thiefs finding a convenient excuse to steal.
I’m biting my tongue so as not to say something that might get me banned. But when stores are being looted and burned so some ‘thugs’ can get their Nike swag, its past shooting time.
I believe standard insurance doesn’t normally cover riot losses.
In the UK I believe local governments must pay for riot losses since they are regarded as policing failures.
It sounds like even if you have insurance it doesnt pay in cases of civil unrest
Poor NYC business owners.
Voted and supported for marxists.
Pleads with looters and rioters to burn some other store, as they are the good useful idiots. See - even a “Dump Trump” sticker in the window.
Stores get looted and burned anyways.
There is a lesson in therr somewhere.
I believe some US jurisdictions will compensate crime victims.
I feel badly for these business owners. First, these are the businesses that survived a 2-3 month shut down. Then this. By the same token, many voted for the criminals that are allowing and supporting this crap. Not understanding history or economics is no excuse for bad voting habits.
Business insurance
Damage to the physical plant of a business and its contents that is caused by fire, riots, civil commotion or vandalism is covered under a Business Owners Policy (also known as a BOP). However, coverage for plate glass windows is often sold separately.
Businesses that are forced to suspend operations or limit hours due to rioting may have coverage for the loss of income under business income insurancealso known as business interruption. However this is only triggered if there is direct physical damage to the premises.
A civil authority provision in a business policy provides coverage for lost income and extra expenses in the event the police or fire department bars access to a specific area as a result of the danger caused by a riot or civil commotion.

what about car insurance or home insurance. i have no idea. never really looked at my policies about that
Well in New York I wonder how many were booked and then just left back out on the streets by the new rules that went into effect January 1 this year.
They are thiefs finding a convenient excuse to steal. .................................. What excuse? Its used as a cover to steal. (and attack those they deem as over achievers.)
I am officially sick of hearing and reading this. Bull crap. Riots, looting and arson are not protests. And no one gives a damn about George Floyd.
Don’t delude yourself, FRiend, The politicians are behind this 100%. Especially the Democrats. They are taking advantage of it to further destroy the economy. The enhance the damage done by their virus hoax.
Welcome to America’s Intifada - maybe we need to build a wall around Red America ...
and used gasoline to burn buildings to the ground.
= = =
See that’s why we need electric cars - no gasoline for the peons.
And if we had been cashless, George Floyd would be alive, someone said.
I read that some insurance may not cover damage to riots. Interesting that a rioter, interviewed live with no mask in the middle of looting, said their insurance will cover it.
Things are so 180-degrees out of sync, so many times, that it is now 1080 degrees out.
I’ll bet the work boots were untouched.
While we may live in the same country as these individuals, as it is the price of freedom, they're imprisoned by their own mentality.
The real truth is that no one's keeping them down but themselves.
As for the looting, how is this any different than trashing a prison commissary?
