Anarchist Who Works At Amazon Accused of Inciting a Riot Surrenders to Police
Epoch Times ^ | 06/02/2020 | Zachary Steiber

An anarchist wanted for allegedly inciting a riot turned himself in on Monday.

Brian Jordan Bartels, 20, over the weekend in Pittsburgh broke windows out of a police vehicle “against the wishes of peaceful protesters who tried to stop him,” the city’s Bureau of Police said.

Bartels surrendered on Monday afternoon and was being questioned by detectives, the bureau said.

Video footage showed the man walking into police headquarters with a woman and another adult male. Bartels didn’t answer shouted questions from reporters.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by The Epoch Times, Bartels was charged with criminal mischief, institutional vandalism, inciting a riot, and recklessly endangering another person. Arraigned early Tuesday, bail was set at $10,000.

The surrender came after detectives, FBI agents, and other officers executed a search warrant on Sunday on Bartels’ place of residence in Allison Park.

Detectives found evidence including gloves, miscellaneous books and literature, six spray paint cans, an iPhone, and two firearms.

Bartels was captured on video—wearing black clothing and a black facial covering with an anarchist symbol emblazoned across it—smashing windows of a police van during a protest that had been peaceful.

Violence kicked off, according to the complaint, with the vandalism of the vehicle, which was ultimately torched.

A plainclothes detective in the crowd witnessed Bartels cause major damage to the van along while encouraging the crowd to also commit criminal acts, even as some protesters urged the man to stop what he was doing.

“As Bartels continued his destruction the crowd fought back against him less and more people began to join him in damaging the car,” according to the criminal complaint.

FROM THE ARTICLE:

Bartels works at Amazon. A co-worker who knows him saw footage of the vandalism, called the police, and tipped them off to Bartels’ identity. Bartels wrote the co-worker on Saturday: “If I’m not at work tomorrow, ask the boss to give me paid time off.”

Amazon hasn’t responded to requests for comment on the criminal charges, including questions on whether the anarchist is still employed.

One heck of a smart move for the co-worker.

Even assuming (I know, I know!) the co-worker is innocent of any evil intentions via the rioting, simply having an e-mail to him prior from Brian Bartels could be very disturbing during an investigation.

Yep. If that were me and I saw that video clip after getting that e-mail, I’d be making a call to the local PD.

Now, if the police even think the co-worker may be involved that opens up that co-worker’s life for investigation into every nook and cranny.

Messy, for the co-worker, either way.

When my husband heard Brian works for Amazon he said Brian could very well be using Amazon’s network for communication plans for illegal actions placing Amazon on the hot seat.

Could get interesting.

When you are fired they have to give you a check with all of your accrued time included.

My guess is he will get that check today.

"When you are fired they have to give you a check with all of your accrued time included."

I bet when he's not working at Amazon, he spends his free time frothing at the mouth about "big corporations." Spoiled idiot is about to get one participation trophy that he'll carry around for the rest of his life.

We had a total nut case working at Intel.
Iranian.
One day he asked me how he could buy a machine gun.
Nearly called the FBI but I didn’t want him following me around.

This really has nothing to do with Amazon. My roommate has worked at the local Amazon warehouse for 6 years now and she’s far from being an anarchist. I just started working there last week as a seasonal (temp) as I’ve been out of work since January. Hard work and a lot, a lot of turnover. One of the other 2 people I was training with my first night didn’t bother showing up the next day. My roommate has told me that some 80% of the people they hire don’t stay very long. Not that it’s a bad place to work from what I can see so far, but they do expect you to actually work, but far from a sweatshop.

When my husband heard Brian works for Amazon he said Brian could very well be using Amazon’s network for communication plans for illegal actions placing Amazon on the hot seat. Unless this guy works in IT or some higher level admin job or such as a supervisor, there’s no “Amazon network” for warehouse employees to be communicating with other employees and I assume from the guys age (20?), he was a warehouse worker. That means he’s either loading or unloading trucks, or picking or packing orders in which case he wouldn’t have a company email or phone, etc.

That depends on the state. I know that in California, when you terminate someone you have to pay them in full including for any accrued time on the same day of their termination. In PA for example you can pay them their hours and accrued time off on the next scheduled pay date.

Thank you, MD Expat in PA, for the explanation!

:)

I’m not a fan of Bezos at all because of his questionable working conditions.

That said, I would not want criminal acts to be done on any business property which would unjustly affect the company or its employees. As a consumer I would simply not purchase from Amazon.

I hope Brian Bartels is handled correctly and by the real book, via the Justice system.

BY THE WAY, anyone have any idea of his parents and their politics?

My beloved said they must be lefties or the MSM would have been living on their doorsteps, already. I cannot find any of their names. Darn.
