Rabbis Agree: Kneel Before No one Except God

The racially motivated protests and riots taking place in the wake of the horrific murder of George Floyd have elicited an unusual response. Many people, including prominent politicians and law enforcement officials, have “taken the knee” in acquiescence to or in complete agreement with the claims of the protesters that America, and in particular the police are racist.

One example was Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison who took a knee when confronted by a protest last Monday. Bettison performed the ritual at the insistence of “angry protesters.” Bettison did so despite the gesture being in contravention of department protocols, for what he called “tactical reasons” since a kneeling policeman is less ready to perform any duty that might suddenly arise. Bettison did so because he “didn’t want any violence.” The gesture appeared quite ironic since Bettison, who is black, was essentially kneeling before the protesters, many of whom were white.

These people are so misguided. The following Scriptures should be mandatory reading for all protestors and wanna be protestors or rioters and yes of course elected officials:

Exodus 20:4-6

While Pelosi knelt at the Floyd memorial along with Chuckie Shumer for over 8 minutes,
I noticed that Congressman Nadless (Orthodox Jew) didn't kneel, but stood and appeared meditating.
I thought that was unusual, except that Pelosi took a double kneel, R.C. Church style, while Chuckie took only one knee.
Sorta symbolic of the Islamist rule of "submission".
I guess that BLM has now become to believe that it is a racial religious movement, rather than social/political.

Don’t give Nadler any credit. He didn’t kneel because his knees are shot. He had both knees replaced because he became a huge tub of lard and it wrecked his knees. With his “new” knees, kneeling is an impossibility for him. Otherwise, who would have prostrated himself like all the other Baalim.

Jewbacca alludes to the refusal to kneel (not to be confused with bowing) to Haman in the Book of Esther. There's also a prohibition in Leviticus 26:1

Since it can be misinterpreted, I'll note that kneeling was acceptable during prayer when the Temple stood, also that observant Jews kneel, with a barrier like a mat, on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur

And in a more secular way which I would think would apply to all religions, kneeling clearly implies acceptance of a belief system. Which may be in conformance with Judaism on many issues, but not on all, though the act suggests the acceptance of not only all, but an alternative belief system. I would think non Jews would feel much the same way, given the refusal to bow of some Christians.

Of course in the real world, 2020, this isn't about symbolic kneeling, it's about intimidation. Ramming a belief system in it's entirety down the throats of populace. It's a demonstration of power, not belief. We're back to Haman and his ilk.

That said in a non political, non religious context, there are times to kneel, times I've kneeled.
