WASHINGTON -- It was June 2015, and Democrats felt the nations political and cultural winds blowing their way. The Supreme Court ruled in President Barack Obamas favor on landmark gay marriage and health care cases. The White House was awash in rainbow light, a symbol of a liberal cultural takeover that seemed unstoppable.
The following year, Donald Trump was elected president, propelled by a revolt of voters who werent on board.
As he barrels toward the November election, Trump is again positioning himself as the spokesperson for voters resisting a new wave of cultural change, ready to ride any backlash from the protests calling for racial equality and police reform and this weeks Supreme Court rulings extending protections to gay workers and young immigrants.
THE SILENT MAJORITY IS STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE, Trump tweeted Friday, aligning himself with those who believe their voices are increasingly missing from the national dialogue.
In truth, Trump has never had support from a majority of Americans, nor has he seen a political imperative in trying to. He lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton in 2016 but offset that by boosting turnout in crucial Midwestern battleground states among disaffected, largely white, voters. Thats the same narrow path hes trying to replicate against Democrat Joe Biden.
Yet Trumps efforts to harness the culture wars to mobilize many of those same voters in 2020 may be more difficult than it was four years ago. Polls show that some of the cultural shifts that took hold during Obamas presidency have continued during Trumps tenure, signaling that his election alone couldnt hold back the evolving views of an increasingly diverse nation.
As a result, Trump has found himself out of step in recent weeks, even with some of his usual allies.

There needs to be a backlash or freedom on the United States is done.
The backlash occurred in 2016
Let’s just divide the country into urban areas and suburban/rural areas and get it over with. Let the Marxists brats play in the kitty litter box and we will go along our way taking care of business and living in true peace. Nice thought eh? Unfortunately these scumbags are going to have to be defeated and eliminated. Literally.
Dear Julie, President Trump does not have to stir a backlash.
His support is sincere and you, my dear, are still THE ASS PRESS.
And that is all you will ever be.
What’s happening isn’t a “wave of cultural change.”
It’s domestic terrorism.
Wow, it’s a Chelsea Clinton clone.
I won’t click. Is this labeled as commentary?
defending drug addicted criminals who are too stupid and brain dead to resist arrest is cultural change??..arson, looting is too??....attacks on Police are too?.....i see the dumb asses in the media are falling for the phony “KENT STATE” fake “outrage” angle. They never learn...
The question the press never asks: Why were they disaffected? Remember, the election swung to Trump because enough voters who voted Obama in 08 and 12 decided to vote for Trump in 16. Nobody in the MSM ever thought to ask these people what made them change their minds.
Backlash = rule of law and decency.
Backlash = rule of law and decency.
They aren't "falling for" it. They are actively creating it and promoting it.
Rioting, massive vandalizing, looting, burning, robbing, terrorizing, and murdering. This cultural change is being led by Democrats in general, and highlights in specific the weak and cowardly female police chiefs, mayors, and governors letting it happen. And standing on the sidelines, applauding, is a very stupid female columnist named Julie Pace.
Cultural change huh?
Is that the new name for arson, looting, destruction of property, tearing down statues, murder, anarchy and mayhem?
gonna be very interesting to see how this all plays out...to have mayors and governors openly supporting lawlessness and cowering to mobs....got a feeling a very nasty “collision” is about to take place. Buckle up everybody...
These aren’t worth reading anymore. I will read news but not silly hit pieces that contain nothing useful. The rest of you enjoy :-)
