Protesters in Golden Gate Park toppled statues of Fr. Junipero Serra, Francis Scott Key and President Ulysses S. Grant on Friday night, spurring a national debate over the complex legacies of those historical figures amid a broader movement to remove what critics say are monuments to white supremacy.
A group of roughly 100 people pulled down the monuments displayed in the parks Music Concourse near the de Young Museum and California Academy of Sciences, an eyewitness said. Police were called to the area just after 8 p.m., and said people in the group threw objects at the officers. The crowd dispersed around 9:30 with no arrests or reports of injuries.
Serra is known as the founder and leader of the mission system that helped create modern California. Key wrote The Star-Spangled Banner and Grant led the Union Army to victory in the Civil War before becoming president.

It was as much, if not more, about the cross.
I have generally thought of a ‘militia’ as an idea that
wasn’t a particularly good idea. Now I’m convinced that
the local, state, and federal governments are hell bent
on selling out our nation.
So I’m not so much against the idea any longer.
Maybe it’s time to have squadrons of militia out there
protecting our people, infrastructure, and civilization.
Push back baby. I’m sick of this wanton treason.
“Push back baby”
Director Wray will not allow push back.
We must be obedient while he protects the insurrectionists with inaction, and prosecution of those who try to stop them.
WTH? Grant didn’t kill enough Confederates to make up for “other deficiencies”?
That’s about it...
Push back hard and without mercy.
It’s about taking down the U. S. It has nothing to do with
the civil war or the actual plight of Blacks.
Look at the violence against Blacks over the last month,
and in particular their businesses.
These are just anarchists destroying any icons they can
find, create chaos, gain concessions... take us down.
I hear ya...

In California fourth graders study the mission period and traditionally build a model of one of the 21 missions. My sons went to Catholic school and the curriculum was scathing as to Serra. If even Catholics cant think of a good thing to say about him we shouldnt be surprised by this result

I made Sonoma out of sugar cubes.
Would like to see President Trump standing in front of this statue and having a heart to heart with the American people on why he is federalizing the guard and that violent confrontation will be inevitable.
Stating this will be temporary to restore law and order in the country.
Timing is important but you must be sure to exhaust everything before it is too late.
Grant was probably one of the most intrinsically decent human beings to ever be president.
I’m not Catholic, but Serra was an amazing man, very worthy of admiration and respect. Anyone in 2020 who despises him reveals himself as a communist azzhole revolutionary.
