150 million? Half the population of us
try 150 million
*** Chinese hydrologist Wang Weiluo ***
Is that pronounced WAY-lo? If so, that’s about the best name for a guy commenting on a dam. Almost too good! I had to check my calendar to see if it was April Fools.
I see what you did there...
It smells like victory.
NO..just sayin.
Smallwood was the fourth dam, between Secord and Wixom lakes.
Secord Lake dam didn’t fail, but they lowered the water around 8 feet to inspect it, and found some damage. So all those waterfront owners are not motorboating, either. A tube bridge at Wildwood acted as a buffer for the upstream water, greatly slowing the flow into Secord. The roadway partially failed there. Had it given way, Secord dam would have breached, too.
All the dams were built in the mid 1920’s, with generators for local power.
Yup.
I’ll take your word for it. All I know is the dam is in Hubei province, whose capital city is Wuhan.
If that damn thing should let go, it’s not like Wuhan won’t get their hair messed up; 225 miles downstream.
Like EVERYTHING on the internet/media, you never who is grinding their ax?
The “China in Focus network” is part of NTD/Fulan Gong. Not exactly best buddies with the rulers of China.
The Three Gorges Dam is a showpiece project and they spared no expense.
That said there some interesting questions about the design, construction procedures, and QC...
Many of the questions arise from Earth First! types.
As usual, the questions may be real or BS.
Environmentalists have no political ax to grind - they just want to save the planet.../RIGHT
If that damn thing should let go, its not like Wuhan wont get their hair messed up; 225 miles downstream.
They might get a days notice before the water arrived?
Sadly, it would be the mother of all traffic jams, lead by massively overloaded tuk-tuks, the motorscooter station wagon combos so popular in Asia.
When people bring me PRC electric guitars to “fix” I usually end up gutting the pickups, wires, potentiometers, switches, jacks and wires - swapping with quality replacements. Tuning machines, fret finishing and bridges are usually nexts.
The bodies and necks are usually okay, but the rest is a woefully inadequate assemblage of junque.
China should stick to making cheap plastic toys.
i am sure this is on everyone’s first target list.
don’t need nukes to take out tens of millions of chinese
