Michigan recently had three consecutive dams on the same river fail (the earthen dikes) after unusually heavy rains.

The Feds banned the owner of the Edenville dam and Wixom lake from filling it. The state took over and allowed the lake to be filled for the sole benefit of the boaters, almost 1000 property owners around the lake who paid esssentially nothing for upkeep.. The state ignored the well known safety concerns. Anyway, that dam failed, washed out, and Wixom Lake is completely empty.

The lake downstream is Sanford and it washed down to concrete as designed preventing complete failure. A third dam (Secord) that was damaged is upstream from Wixom but still intact. A fourth dam upstream was also damaged but is intact.

The picture in the article, the men hauling the stretcher, change that camo green shirt on the one young man for an American national guard uniform. He looks just like a young man in our local high school.

This is that thing forcing massive removal effort booting thousands upon thousands of villagers out of homes! Schadenfruede!

OTOH, torrential flooding...maybe that’ll put a stop to the COVID...

The commies have instructed their poodles in the western press not to highlight any causes of the rain. It might draw attention to their enormous cloud seeding madness in Tibetan mountains

Thanks. The dam is not distorted as it would be impossible to hide the fact from any satellite.

I am not sure what to make of the concerns many have expressed about the quality of the concrete that was used in the construction. You would like to think that engineers would not accept sub-standard materials in such an important project, but this is a communist nation. I would expect that substandard concrete would usually be easy to notice with cracks and chipping visible on the surface. However, this is the largest concrete structure in the world so who knows?

Communism breeds ineptitude and dishonesty. The state is supposed to be infallible so bureaucrats always express reports of perfection to the state. This is particularly pervasive in Communist China.

Not to worry!
Wuhan is about 225 miles distant from the Three Gorges Dam.

worse then that, the state ordered them to keep the water level high and was suing them over it.

Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain.

Just like in the old movie “The Emerald Forest”

I think I can hear the frogs croaking...

Aww....ya beat me to it! But you left out why it is that so many of England’s top goalies feel moved to write about the Yangtze.

For real: back in grade school we read about horrific floods that had killed millions of Chinese. Pearl Buck wrote a short story “The Old Demon” where an old woman opens a floodgate that drowns a Japanese column in the valley at the cost of her own life.

Floods and death are part of Chinese culture.

Excellent reporting. But terrifying, if it should happen.

Not one, but several millions would be affected.

It could harm places as far away as Shanghai.

I pray that God, in His mercy, will not allow this dam to break.

It’s pretty big. Better use half a dozen of these:

Well, you had Barnes Wallis right, but what we're looking for here is one of his other inventions...
