On April 26, 2019, Indiana HB 1284 became Public Law 107. The bill was a major reform of firearm carry law in Indiana. One of the reforms was free five-year permits for the carry of handguns in Indiana, after 1 July, 2020. Most of the reforms went into effect immediately when the bill became law.

They included:

If the immunity defense was raised and prevailed, reasonable attorney's fees and costs would be awarded to the defendant by the court.

The restriction on carrying/possessing guns on school property was removed for people who were attending worship services or religious ceremonies on school property as an employee or volunteer of a house of worship located on school property.

The duration of a handgun carry license was changed from four years to five years.

Here is the wording removing the fee for five-year licenses. The application fee for lifetime licenses becomes $50, or $40 if you have a current five-year license.  First, removal of the application fee, starting 1 July 2020:

(c) This subsection applies after June 30, 2020.The law enforcement agency which accepts an application for a handgun license shall not collect a fee from a person applying for a five (5) year handgun license and shall collect the following application fees:

(1) From a person applying for a lifetime handgun license who does not currently possess a valid Indiana handgun license,a fifty dollar ($50) application fee, thirty dollars ($30) of which shall be refunded if the license is not issued.

18% of the Indiana adult population had carry permits over a year ago.

It is likely over 20% now.

They are all likely voters.

Screw the law. I’m packing every time I go anywhere. Better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6.

I do believe you’re not alone with that. There are likely thousands more thinking/doing the same thing.

Anecdotal evidence (not from Indiana):
I went to the range on Saturday. As we pulled up, I was very concerned about the crowd as the parking lot was almost full. We went in the front door, and the store wasn’t really all that busy. We went to the range part of the building, and there was nobody shooting. I asked the attendant what was up with all of the cars. He said they were all in the concealed carry class that was going on. I peaked in and the room was packed. We had the range to ourselves, but I don’t think that will last very long. Meanwhile, I’m going to go while the classes are going on.

People are buying guns and wanting permits to carry them.

People are buying guns and wanting permits to carry them.

Let us pray that translates into voting in November.

Good!
There’s a vape shop that I frequent where the owner open carries all the time.
When I went yesterday afternoon, they had a new employee. Female, about five foot nothing, maybe 115 pounds, in her mid 20’s.
Like clockwork, I asked her, “Got your carry permit?”
She said not yet, but as she was a hunter, she’s planning to get her’s soon.
I suggested she start the process early as there’s a long wait at the sheriff’s offices for the permits, and told her about the free classes that there are.

The more the better, and safer.

So does my Wife.
I told her that she might as well carry. It’s completely legal in her vehicle in Colorado.

In AZ, with no permitting required, the total cost to gun owners is zero; the cost to the state is the price of printing state gun permits for carrying out of state. They are located at a table, help yourself.

Indeed, the real costs of not having gun control are benefits, such as not losing property or being injured or killed by a criminal. And this can amount to a huge amount of money and strong feelings of personal security.

I have it on good authority, an LEO here in NJ, that there are more people doing that than you know.

That should automatically be applied everywhere. It IS Constitutional, isn’t it? Why is it that some people, most namely Democrats, have such a problem with our Constitution when I believe it is the supreme law of the land. Am I wrong? Don’t all folks in public office have to take an oath which includes upholding the Constitution? For those who refuse to honor this oath(usually Democrats)...why aren’t they prosecuted? I think most of us would like to see America get back to what it was originally meant to be & ridding us of those who refuse to obey their oath of office would be a first step, wouldn’t it?
