My guess is by now we ALL have been exposed and we all may very will test positive, but most will not have any symptoms and most will not die.
It is time to put an end to this farce and get back to our normal lives.
“There are many teachers who are in at-risk categories. How can they teach in a classroom being coughed on, sneezed on, and surrounded by surfaces touched by virus-shedding people?
How can the 6’ distance be maintained in classrooms where there’s barely room for the kids now? Classes would have to be a lot smaller to allow sufficient distancing and present buildings could not serve as many students as they do now. Many schools in NYC, for example, have been operating at 200-400% capacity for years.
Could students be mature and responsible enough to follow proper contagion-containing procedures? Not from what I’ve seen in classrooms.”
But it’s ok for the grocery store clerk to handle the community’s money on a regular basis. And this was during the peak of this “pandemic”.
Personally I’d say either cancel school all together or open them up and those in the high risk category can collect unemployment. I can’t see how you can teach 1st second and third graders how to read online. This is a race against time because if a kid can’t read by third grade the odds really start to get bad for him.
..should they be forced to come back and teach during the Covid-19 pandemic...
Can’t you say the same for grocery store workers, police officers, government workers, and the multitude of others who are, and have been working in close proximity to the general public? Are teachers now a privileged class?
Masks and social distance. If businesses can open, so can schools.
Well, I dont believe that teachers should be a protected class. I am only saying that a shortage of employees in a sector of the economy makes it easier for the employees to make demands. In my country, there is a shortage of teachers so they can threaten not to come back during the pandemic. Many of the teachers are quite old (in their 60s) and it is reasonable for them to be afraid of Covid-19.
In the U.S., there is probably enough teachers so they cant make demands or can be replaced easily.
well, in the US the several teacher’s unions are telling their rank and file to not return to teach. But in the union’s case it is more political than safety. They are also flooding the airways with propaganda to support their case - very biased stuff.
