Ain’t Central Planning grand?
And it would wipe out much of the richest farmland of that country along the Yangtze River plain east of Yichang. China will be forced to import a lot of food until the farmland is restored.
One to three million?
21 million disappeared in the first quarter of this year. Not a peep from the MSM.
How much cover does China need for a piddly three million?
It is hard to follow the news about the flooding there because many outlets seem to be invested in the outcome - i.e., they seem to want the dam to fail as a blow to the CCP or they parrot the CCP line that there is nothing to worry about. There are still many who claim the construction/concrete was inferior due to corruption.
I suspect the truth is somewhere in the middle. I remember watching some shows on the construction of the dam years ago and there was an engineer who talked about how the capacity of the reservoir system would handle any flood. Apparently not. I suspect there were some who argued they needed extra reservoir capacity to handle extreme flooding, but the CCP did not want to flood or relocate additional towns/cities.
In the end, I would never trust the CCP because they believe and promote the idea that the state is infallible. I guess we will see.....
That is exactly the scene that I had in mind when I typed my post.
A half-billion people, and 50+ nuclear power plants.
Fukushima II, III, IV LV.
I think the Chinese learned from the Fukushima experience. My guess is that the Chinese government has already ordered the shutdown of those plants to prevent a dangerous meltdown situation.
As dams start blowing, you’re going to have a massive catastrophe that will hit right in the supply chains...including supply chains for medications the US is dependent on.
One of the problems they have is that like places on the lower Mississppi, their major rivers contained by levees, and the river level is higher than the surrounding terrain.
(Standing on Basin street in N.O. and looking up at ships passing by on the Mississppi river.!)
Some information here.
They will be facing major food shortages when their limited farm land is underwater.
I visited the 3 Gorges area as the damn was being built. The local government/Party officials bragged about what a massive project it was, and how the new lake would be so large, it would change the climate of the entire area. Some European colleagues with me were shocked as if they witnessed a murder.
What’s interesting is that if the dam had been built smaller but they turned much of the Yangtze River basin into water bypass areas that can be flooded (read: the Yolo and Sutter Bypasses west of Sacramento, CA), we wouldn’t be talking about the current flooding issues. Instead, right now we’ve just be talking about the massive “sea” surrounding Wuhan from the flooded bypasses.
Won long Zheng no swim like carp ... blub blub blub!!!
They wanna use bio weapons on us as asymmetrical war, well we’ll see your bioweapon, and raise you our weather weapon. May the Chinese wonder for years if this is psyops or the capability of our government’s long running research into manipulating the weather.
Ive never been to that part of California, but I assume that involves leaving land empty, or at least with minimal human contact? Given all the cities, towns and villages everywhere along the Yangtze, particularly after it passes Wuhan, it would probably involve a lot more than the 3 million that were relocated in Szechuan province!
It sure is a good thing the USA is self sufficient and doesn’t depend on China for basic necessities. /s
RE: My guess is that the Chinese government has already ordered the shutdown of those plants to prevent a dangerous meltdown situation.
So, which plant(s) is/are replacing the lost power generated during the shutdown?
In Tampa a bridge was built to Clearwater & Saint Pete.
Was supposed to be a 100 year bridge.
Contractor used saltwater to make the concrete to save a few bucks thus making the 100 year bridge needing to be replaced after 20.
Contractor claimed bankruptcy.
Those who have been paying attention to the Sun have been predicting rains like this for decades.
