New Mexico’s busy putting healthy folks out of work (No prohibition is too strict for Dems to enact)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | August 12, 2020 | Alan R. Wilson

Scarpa’s [restaurant] was visited by two state police officers, and then by city health department officials. You’ll appreciate this: Law enforcement took two of its best away from drugs, shootings, assaults and deadly crashes to close down Scarpa’s.

Scarpa’s crime was to provide patio dining by elevating its wall system that opens some of its dining area to the sunlight and the fresh air. The restaurant’s ventilation system provided positive air flow continuously over the tables. But, we have a government that knows better and has the unlimited resources to send law enforcement to impose its judgment. ...

When the government doesn’t trust the judgment of its own citizens, we’re in a bad way. The condescension and misleading use of statistics by (Human Services Secretary) Dr. (David) Scrase is an example, as he is leading the charge in killing small restaurants and cafes. As a doctor, his singular focus is on the virus. As a policy-maker, he is myopic. Someone must evaluate other aspects of our society and economy in making decisions that balance the factors that makes our lives safe, productive, rewarding and happy. No single variable should trump everything else.

His estimated ratio of known-to-unknown COVID cases is 1:4.8, ... He then treats that number as if it has significance to the population as a whole, without regard to [other factors]. If three people with pre-existing conditions in Bernalillo County, who have never eaten at a restaurant this year, die, Dr. Scrase justifies closing the restaurants, not because diners are really being infected, but because it is a theoretical possibility.

There is no way to conduct a business with arbitrary and uninformed decisions being imposed by government, sometimes with little notice. Today, we look for solutions not to solve the contagion, but to work around the government.

Don’t worry, Lujan Grisham is a Spaniard so the Mexicans will vote for her in lockstep even if she orders public whippings for them on a routine basis.

Anything to get rid of the evil Anglos. They’ll eat dirt and drink bleach if needed.

So the idiots in that run down, beat up, poverty stricken state - which is what it’s been since I was a kid in the 60’s - will keep it that way.

Beyond insane.

Your edit left out the first sentence:

“Another client of mine nearly closed (the first) weekend (in August).”

Necessary to make the 300-word excerpt limit. I'm at 299!

This state would make a great 3rd world Banana Republic if you could grow bananas here.

I am glad that most NM local police forces and county Sheriffs Departments are refusing to enforce Governorlissima Lujan’s unConstitutional and idiotic edicts.

Her private Gestapo, the NM State Police will be stretched pretty thin trying to throw us all in jail and destroying all small businessed, so a lot of us might be able to live free, for a while at least..

Thanks for the ping, Dave.

It is a real pity. I enjoy visiting New Mexico (I live a short distance from the Texas-New Mexico border), and do so often. New Mexico is a beautiful place that is governed by escapees from a nut house.

A silver lining in the cloud.

Up to a point. At the end of July the bitch had the Dem AG petition the state supreme court to issue a writ of mandamus to the local county sheriff to enforce her orders. This occurred after photographs showed LEO dining indoors in a restaurant. The sheriff is an elected county officer and not under control of the governor.

On the other hand, the state police is under her control and she is using them to enforce her indoor dining restaurant ban.

The first sentence sets the context.
