So we should remain the world’s police, sending good men and women to the slaughter, wasting billions of dollars and continuing to feed the military industrial complex?

I have a simple solution. Those who want endless wars can put their children and grandchildren on the front lines to be cannon fodder. The rest of us will keep our offspring safely out of those death traps. What nation in world history was successful fighting the same war for twenty years?

Sorry isolationists and pacifists, but we’re in trouble if our enemies are willing to fight forever wars and we aren’t willing to fight back. They will outlast us. Evil never gives up.

So your idea is too follow George Bush and his promise of 50 years of war in the Mideast bleeding with the maiming and killing of our wholesome youth. That leaves us with the Marxist punks running mayhem on our streets.

Let the rest of the world take care of its own interests. When a rogue nation attacks us or our interests, we have the capability to sink its navy, flatten their air power, and crush their armor. After that we can airdrop small arms to opposition groups and let them sort their nation's interest out. No need to expend capital in rebuilding in our image.

I agree. I don't give a rats hind leg for what these 7th. century barbarians are forever on about. They and their endless sectarian blood feuds.

"Does anybody think... "

You forgot to call them "isolationists". Just use that word and be confident that everyone will run away from them in horror and disgust.

By your rubric, our intervention in the Great War made the world safe for Nazism. It is true. Furthermore, our victory in WWII in Europe guaranteed the triumph of Stalinism. Our victory over Japan made possible Mao's power in China.

As then so today. Having troops somewhere invites attack, so that our people will support a larger war. That would be fine except our government will not fight all the way to victory. As Patton was removed before he could finish the real war with communism, as MacArthur was removed before he could finish a war with communism, as the Bushes stopped the Gulf War, as fighters in Afghanistan are given rules of engagement, so will it be again next time anywhere in the world.

Meanwhile we are losing the war against tyranny right here in the USA! I am not saying that I know what to do. I am saying that your position is naive or at best simplistic. Sure our people are not committed to a decisive battle. You might not like the decision. Without a commitment to fight and win your argument loses all force. I welcome your comment and correction.

See my comment number 28, if you would so kindly thanks. It is so silly to call names. You seem intelligent and would know better, so I suppose you think there is some preloaded argument in the terms “isolationist” and “ pacifist” but that is mistaken. You will need to support your position with a real argument.

I do beg your indulgence if I correct you, and thanks for your valuable contribution here.

>>Most Military officers, State Department officials, and foreign service officials think we need to expand our presence in the region, or Russia will.<<

Russians or Soviets at the time, fought in the early 80’s in Afghanistan. Got the @$$e$ handed to them. Don’t think the militarily diminished Russians would re-enter this area. Very unpopular war in Ruski-land.

Enough is enough. Get our troops out!!

We keep our eyes on the horizon, secure our borders and remain vigilant here at home. If we are attacked, hit them hard...I mean real damn hard.

Other than that, we don't need to be the world policeman. Fighting a war is one thing, doing the beat cop thing is like a duck shoot against our troops.

We have the capability to cripple countries with weaponry alone. If it's absolutely necessary...ok, put boots on the ground, but get in, destroy, get out.

Build the crap outta cruise missiles..I mean a crap load. Land air and sea, bad actors threaten or attack us...rain down hell for freaking days. Don’t give them a moments sleep. Destroy all their infrastructure, sink their navies, take out commerce, cripple airfield operations.

We have that power. Boots on the ground as an absolute last resort.
