No canned pumpkin to be found in my little corner of western MA.

Not a huge seller most of the time here, but it’s odd that it cannot be found this time of year.

Swine flu hit China last winter. Every damned pig that was available has been sent to replace their breeding stock. Good luck getting bacon in a couple of months.

I have to keep one plugged into the chevy all the time. I was going to plug one into the FRS but forgot. I was surprised that it started right up.

I have four vehicles. I need to sell the FR-S. I no longer need it and it’s still worth 8k or so. It could finish off our mortgage. And it’s the last car I’ll ever own that burns premium.

Mr. GG2 and I have been slow stocking for weeks. Canned meats, soup, chili and don’t forget Hormel canned tamales. We made sure never again to get caught short on TP and paper towels plus staples like flour, sugar and yeast. The aftermath of Trump’s re-election is going to be chaotic.

I think you might want to re-read the article. This is about the first indications—not that they are full blown.

The soda issue is about aluminum shortages—not soda. What else comes in aluminum cans?

There are grain and pork shortages in China. How long before that impacts us? We are sending hogs to China in numbers never seen before. China is building holding facilities for grains and other foodstuffs in the interior of their country. These are estimated to be building stocks to last 2-5 years.

THAT stuff should be sending shivers down your back—just a little.

It was easier to watch the madness last spring with 100 rolls of TP in my basement than for those scrambling.

No need to panic, but this is not the first article I’ve seen on this topic. And that makes my “spidey sense” start to tingle.

Not from the corona virus. Before CV there was a major outbreak of swine fever in China. They had to destroy a large portion of their herd. THAT is a huge deal.

The second issue is the impact of the constant tropical storms in the breadbasket area in China. The fields are flooded and the crops failed all over the place.

They have an awful lot of mouths to feed. Their government is buying just about any live pig in the world. They are stockpiling grain for the coming season.

There are little noises around if you look for them. I am sure we will hear more after the election.

Back in September I watched the news out of china to get a feeling for the horrendus flooding.

Levees protecting croplands protected were purposely breeched to allow the flood to dissipate in the natural flood plain.

Crops were destroyed

As an aside, there were videos of grain storage. The grain is stored in mountains that resemble sand dunes. These huge piles got wet and the stored corn was rotted. The stock piles were lost. The food reserve was lost

Yeah - I had to “settle” for some beef that wasn’t my fist choice a time or two.
Amazing what they call “shortages” when countries with actual empty shelves are out there...we’re spoiled.

Make them in your oven..just look online for how to dehydrate celery..it’s very easy..just make sure and get it dry, no moisture in it.

“Shortages of junk food are no disaster.”

Unless you are in the portion of the population that thinks that boxed mac and cheese is cooking from scratch. Or the other ones who have never used a can opener before. Or the ones whose only kitchen appliance is a microwave oven...

No, shortages are not a myth. They are real.

They are just irrelevant to you if you’ve been prepping and planning.

I got meat goats earlier than planned, two does and a buck. Paid for them with the stimulus check. Not enough land for cattle which is what we’re surrounded with and I really don’t have much desire to deal with animals that weigh as much as a car. Hoping the goats will eventually become a little retirement income. They were up around $3/lb at the sale barn this past Spring. 50-70 lb goats bring the highest price and they can be tossed in the back of a truck with a topper or I can make my own short livestock trailer. They usually throw twins so we should get 4 kids in Spring. Doelings will be kept to breed back to the buck and bucklings will either be sold or go in the freezer or canned. All depends on how things go between now and Spring.

GOOD!

Glad to hear you got it before the election and have time to fill it.

I use milk crates in it to hold the loose stuff that would otherwise just schlump to the bottom and get lost forever.

We won’t run out of liquor because the state owns the stores. The government is going to get their money.

We had a run on Ramen at the beginning of the pandemic. Luckily, we have an International Market and they never run out but I saw students buying cases of it last week.
We have a large pantry and I can’t fit another thing in it, The university has a butcher shop (Ag school) and we have been stocking up there.

Prepper Ping - spices and canned food goods shortages now ?
Covid related (?), or globally natural events (?)

Vermont Lt :" The swine flu in China is sucking up all of the pork.
The floods in China have ruined the grain crops.
The Chinese gov is stockpiling years of grains.

The US is now just waking up to the problem.

Good thing all “they” want to talk about it racism.
Because your color doesn’t matter if your belly is empty."

(My Comments): The Chinese government is buying up our industries and food processing plants to cover their own shortfalls.
Now that the Chinese people have been introduced to an upgraded standard of living,
the anticipated shortfalls of food production and agriculture crops are going to be severely resented by the Chinese populace.
The effect of Chinese shortfalls on food production and consumption are now being felt internationally and globally.
Added to this, global natural disasters are now being felt in the U.S. economy as well as in the industrial sector.
As they stated in 'The Game Of Thrones' - "Winter is coming,..winter is coming".
Read the article and posting comments for additional resources and suggested supplies, as well as other shortfalls.
Prepare appropriately ! OODA Loop !

We’d wanted a small chest freezer for a long time and when I saw empty shelves in Italy due to covid, I stocked up on TP and food and bought a freezer. 2-3 weeks later, no freezers or TP to be found.
