Russians have a different opinion about effectiveness of shrapnel or bullets used in a space environment. They tested a turret gun.

For that matter, how do you surmise a directional nuclear propulsion unit for Orion would work, if it could not push on the thrust plate. Pet project of Freeman Dyson and Teddy Taylor.

Turning metal and hydrocarbons into plasma will generate a pressure pulse within a vacuum without fail.

Most likely the ICBM had a device (transponder) to make tracking easier. These tests are highly controlled in an effort to ensure grand success for the service and contractors. This likely could not be repeated real world.

That said it does delay and deter future attacks on us by some number of months.

I think the irrationality of the ‘new players’ is exagerrated.
They aren’t really that stupid as to attack US with a single or a couple ICBMs. There are so much more fitting and expotentially more affordable ways to deliver an WMD.
The technology, working or not, is indeed aimed at Russia and China.
In case of Russia it is accompanied by deployment of the offensive element in form of land-based Raytheon VLS in Europe.
I don’t know why anyone thinks all of the above in combination is a good idea, but they at least need to stop lieing about it.
As for the rogue regimes acquiring WMDs look once again at the Bush II years. His attack on Iraq after the inspection proved the lack of WMD, later attack on Libya after it voluntary dropped nuclear program are very bad signal to other dictators. Many smart people warned about it before.
It seems like neocons are going to turn the World upside down and I mean it literally.

I couldn’t tell that from the article. Though it did say “intercepting” but I suppose even that is up to some form of interpretation.

I don’t expect them to say how its actually done. Fascinating stuff. Its a top secret mechanism, probably for a reason. Any good intercept tool can probably be circumvented with enough knowledge and time to adjust the platform.

The danger of atom bombs being used again was already increasing.

Only a fake news source like yahoo could come up with the idea that a better defense is a bad idea. You know outlets like Yahoo are devoted to the destruction of the USA and should be banned.

Technically, I think the original source of the article was Bloomberg and Yahoo just curated it as they do with most of their “Articles”....

But, yeah...
