I remember it well. I lived in The Woodlands. The pipes in my tract home froze in the attic and I had to go up there with a hair dryer to thaw them. My first child was two months old and my in-laws were visiting to make it more memorable.
The Midwest is colder than Nancy Pelosi’s breast.
Ouch...
Hi.
In 1989 it snowed in Tampa.
Well, it covered about 2 inches and lasted until noon.
5.56mm
I remember it also. A water pipe in the attic froze and burst, just before a house full of company arrived.
I was there in 1989 and if I recall correctly it was 15 degrees that morning.
“””The problem along the Gulf Coast is that a lot of the water pipes are not insulated and run across the attic.”””
And the faucets outside the house were also vulnerable if you did not protect them with “Dolly Parton’s”.
-1 for a low Monday in the Dallas area. Crazy.
Open a couple of taps and have them flow at a slow but steady rate.
I left the Air Force in February 1973 from San Antonio Texas. There was an inch of ice on everything! Since I was from New York State (my destination) I was the only vehicle on the road because I had, perhaps, the only car in Texas with snow tires.
For those in North TX this week will be the time to start campfires and let the flames freeze so you break them off and grind them up in to chili powder.
Same here in Temple TX. Couldn’t get out of the driveway this morning due to the ice.
When these deep freezes hit Texas, Texans build fires.
When the fires freeze solid, they ground them up
and make chili powder...
From Texas Brags.
Heads up, Bastardi calling for -20 or more in the panhandle next week.
In 1899 Dallas was -8. They'll stay above zero this time, probably about +8.
Yeah- I remember that, as I was living there at the time. I remember that some guy gently rear ended me at a stop sign, as he didn’t know how to brake in snow and ice- no damage done, we both went on our ways, and I had a fun story to tell. My wife (then) was from Pennsylvania, and found the whole situation puzzling and hilarious.
What about water pipes? How deep are they? In MA the frostline is about 3 feet to prevent freezing of water pipes.
.
I am not sure who to believe. The Weather Channel is saying -1 in the Tyler area. NWS (Global Warming Advocates) are still saying 5 but just yesterday, they were saying 10.
The pipelines will be fine. The wellheads could freeze up.
