I looked at this before it was taken down. Seems like may of the board members were lawyers. How does being a lawyer qualify you for overseeing a power grid?

It qualifies you for graft and corruption and kickbacks.

They need somebody with real energy industry experience. I think Hunter Biden is available.

The electric power industry is technologically mature but fraught with legal and political issues that arise between its investor ownership and its public obligations as a regulated monopoly. Now a weather crisis has made them all look like fools and put the traditional arrangements in doubt.

There is a lot of chatter on this thread which does not address the regulatory question how, apparently over several decades, windmills were substituted for coal-fired base load capacity. In many states, early in the wholesale introduction of environmentally and economically unsupportable windmills, categorically unreliable windmill ['renewable'] capacity was never allowed to count against coal, natural gas or nuke capacity. Look at the coal fired production in this Texas fiasco. Barely a hiccup and that caused by the gyrations [instability] in the grid caused by dumping certain loads. During that early time frame windmills were laid on but NEVER without actual base load capacity in place. The only people who could have benefited from this criminal madness were the usual supects, chiefly the Ching Chong Chicoms-the same thugs who make the crappy fiberglass blades and the turbines that cannot operate reliably. Failure to winterize the Chink made blades - eh? Rubbish.

“I don’t [sic] be that surprised if the entire TX government is swept out by this.”

I won’t be surprised if you are zotted from this forum before that.

Welcome to FR. It’s a conservative forum. FYI. ICYDK.

Are these the people who thought effing windmills were a good idea?

There is only one kind of electricity generating windmill AND it called an effing windmill.

ERCOT is a creature of the Texas legislature. Where its management and board live is immaterial.

Who hired them? Did Uncle Sam parachute them in?

FERC and the legislature told Abbott that weatherization was necessary. He shot it down.

They're saying it's NOT the windmills and solar farms. And that would leave what?? Gas and electric.

We need to know the number of homes that are serviced by windmills and solar panels.

Not unusual...cuz every bit of this power is contracted and that relates to the grid. Board members don’t work in the field ya know.

Before the deep freeze I filled up containers with water and shut off the water main to help prevent bursting pipes. Didn’t expect to lose power with the long outages however.
A little rough but I survived ok. Even went walking in the snowy park 3 days in a row and I’m 64 years old. Not bragging, just saying we gotta be prepared and flexible plus adaptable.
With that said the incompetence of the electric power providers deserves a thorough scrutiny. Back in 1983 here in DFW we had a similar deep freeze Arctic event with no power outages issues. Unacceptable and unnecessary what has occurred here.

I said it before and now I'll say it again.

Welcome to Texas' energy deregulation.

Texans were scammed by it, now they're paying for it.

It's both sad and humorous to see all the people freezing who were laughing at and pointing fingers at those stupid Californians for having their power turned off to prevent fires.

AKA karma.

The Governor of Texas wanted to run for re-election in 2022 and the President in 2024. Guess that plan is frozen......

Board doesn’t live in the state, went all greenie, with that the belief that global warming means no cold for Texas, so ignore advice to winterize machines. They probably got EMMYS also for this performance.
