Some folks have no understanding of electricity. I still sometimes hear of someone claiming it takes more electricity to turn a light off and back on than it will use in an hour left on. I don’t know how such absurdities ever got started but some people still believe them.

Others have already said it, but that was clearly written by a person with zero knowledge of electricity.
Like an appliance is gonna sit there, consuming current 24/7 jus ‘caus it’s plugged in, but doing nothing.

How does being a lawyer qualify you for overseeing a power grid?

They all went to night school, got PHD’s in electrical engineering, and worked nights and weekends at utilities all over the state./SARC
They smelled the grift a Texas mile away and got right on the case.

A kitchenAide mixer is not used once at my house. The poster who wrote that must not cook, either they have a chef/housekeeper or they eat out. A mixer is used everyday.

Reads and sounds like a normal government screwup. No one knows who is responsible for this. Must be the others fault cause it sure is not mine.

From same page at the bottom of page. This is about the stupid carbon credit scam. Non oil producing nations and states want the oil producing states to pay for their fuel. Pure and simple scam. Globalist Greenie BS!

The difference between then and now, whoever did the energy planning did not put interruptible supplies (wind and solar) into the firm energy supply portfolios. Putting between 25-40% of wind power into the firm energy supply portfolio(s) is insane. Unfortunately, many in power seem to be insane.

Way behind and just catching up. Correct. It was -5 and water mains froze solid but the electric grid was fine. I remember it well.

Living in Florida, I am perhaps more acutely aware of the things that can be done to harden and ready electric utilities and essential services against storm damage and to prepare food and gas supplies against the loss of electricity from the grid.
Nowadays, after a hurricane, most electric service in Florida is restored with remarkable speed due to line and grid hardening and to repair crews being moved into position before a storm hits. And water and sewer systems, most grocery stores, and key gas stations now have on site emergency generators, with extra generators rolled in as needed.
Why wasn't Texas prepared for the episodic and predictable challenges of a severe snow and ice storm? The combination and coordination of public and private sector preparation was lacking. As Florida has shown, a state run by conservative Republicans has found ways to prepare for natural disasters without violating conservative principles or spending excessively. No matter how you slice it though, Texas was not ready.
