I’ve wondered if they would continue to have it be “The Rush Limbaugh Show” in name with a new host. “This is the Rush Limbaugh Show - this is your host, [host name]”

That seems like a good idea to me, too. It's uncharted territory because no one with a titled show of this stature has passed while still in the heyday (that I can think of).

They should just have Mark Steyn take it over. They can keep the name “Rush Limbaugh show” and add “with Mark Steyn”.

Look for each of the individual stations to move other popular shows into the 12Est. slot. EIB can’t realistically continue unless it’s moved to evenings for those stations that want to continue the historical legacy, but I doubt that would work.

Prager is the only host I’m aware of that chose to go head to head with Rush. Levin, Hannity refused to compete with him and its likely that any potential “replacements” would have to move their slots to 12Est, at which point they lose their current audience and assume the role as “Rush’s replacement”, which none of them would want to do.

It’s a dilemma for broadcasters.

As a broadcast programmer (which I once was) and after further thought— considering the death wish it would be for anyone to try to “replace Rush”—Kathryn and Premier have little choice but to pay Steyn a boatload to play the role of the guy who replaces a legend.

He’s the only one who could retain a decent audience. He needs the money to fight his prolonged lawsuit vs. the hockey stick guy. It allows him to continue with his FOX contributor role.

Assume a persona not as attempting to replace Rush, but to keep Rush’s issues alive and in the public square until we flip the congress in ‘22. Occasional very brief Limbaugh sound bites would be acceptable, but Steyn understands the dangers we face almost as well as Rush, so he can only succeed being himself.

I like the reruns of Rush that are paired with current events. A reminder that this communist takeover of our Republic has been ongoing for decades. Rush reruns are history which gives background and understanding to help deal with what America is now experiencing. What I really dislike are the constant homage calls which often end with emotional breaking down. Rush was a practical person and I think he would appreciate cutting short this ongoing mourning however we may personally feel. We all loved and appreciated him and honor his contributions to America in so many ways. Time will resolve what will happen with his radio three hour slot.

I have to agree. Not interesting in hearing someone break down telling the world what Rush meant to him. If they ever decide to move forward, I will give it a listen. And it will probably have to be Mark Steyn if I do, unless they have someone on hold I have never heard of.

Perhaps the EIB network should serve as a syndicator of several conservative talk shows or replace Rush with a single host of a show under the EIB banner. Rush’s widow Katherine seems to have worked with Rush planning for his eventual demise and surely Rush would have talked about where he wanted his show to go moving forward. I agree it is high time to stop the reminiscing and look forward.

I concur with Leann Horrocks, that the show needs to move on. I agree with many others that Mark Steyn is an excellent person to “replace” Rush. I’m giving Dennis Prager “a listen.”

I don’t know, they probably have contracts with the networks to deliver a product and the name is part of the brand. Drop the name and it’s just another talk radio show. Not sure how they could rebrand it without compromising the appeal.

Good points. Mark Steyn is my favorite but I wonder if he is up to the rigid three hour a day commitment as he has a variety of projects and interests which are also time consuming. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

I actually like the replays.

I would go long stretches of time that I didn’t listen to the show, so much of what is being played is new to me.

And I do have memory issues so even if I heard it originally the odds are I forgot.

They have also been doing a good job of tying in the current news. I think it is the best way they could transition.

It hasn’t even been a full month since he died. People are bitching because the show is not moving on as fast as they want. The first week was mostly tributes but since then they have been doing current news. They do play Rush clips that fit in with the subject.

I also like hearing the memories of the callers.

We don’t know what is going on behind the scenes. Maybe the decision on the person to take over the show hasn’t been decided, or maybe it has but they have might need to finish a contract or other issues that might need to be finalized first.

Until then I will take the mix of new and old.

I asked my local station to organize an in person memorial for listeners.

That said, EIB should close.

Part of Rush’s legacy is talkers who entered the radio business because of him.

Some are very good. Opening a 3 hour segment on 600 stations will make or break hundreds of careers.

Some will get syndication deals and the cream will rise to the top.

They should just rename the show “The Rush” and have Mark Steyn host it. Memorializes Rush, implies that we now have no time to lose, gives us a new host.

See my post above - just call it “The Rush with Mark Steyn.” Memorialize, correctly state that we are in trouble and need to make changes fast, gives the show to happy warrior Steyn

True

We need to keep those 3 hours and have conservative thought from many sources highlighted prominently.

The EIB Show. With excellent guest hosts and interviewers. A place for conservative politicians and minds to convene and talk . 15 hours a week!

I’m as big a Rush fan as you will ever find. I agree with the sentiment of this article. I’ve been thinking the same thing for a week or more.

As much as LOVED Rush, one of the main reasons I listened was: I LEARNED THINGS! Rush presented the news of the day, with his commentary. Without that, it’s just not worth listening to.

They seem to be pivoting in that direction some already. Todd Herman has been talking about current news. Then, blending in some Rush clips.

I actually do LOVE hearing some of the old Rush classic calls and riffs. I think, they should limit these to “special shows”... or “Special times”? Mayybe, in the third hour? Or, heavy on Fridays? I don’t know the magical formula.

But, first and foremost, the show MUST be about the news of the day. We need to know what’s REALLY happening, without the BS Media filter.

That said: I think they should improved the search functions on the 24/7 website. I would continue to pay the annual fee, just to have podcast access to a “good show” and access to all the historical Rush recordings.. on my own.

I don’t listen to the pity party. Last I listened was with Mark Steyn. The other hosts are dull and the clips are tiresome. Keep the time slot with the EIB and have a host rotation but end the “remembering Rush” stuff. Most likely it is the media company trying to milk it for the last few dollars they can. I would imagine how widow is going to focus on charity work and wants nothing to do with trying to keep the show going.
