The point I was trying to make is that Russia isn’t actually “pulling” anything. Their actions are purely defensive at this point as Ukraine declared their intention to retake Crimea by force right before the Russian buildup started. Regardless of what you think about how the Crimea affair went down, the fact of the matter is it’s Russian now and will never go back. It would be unjust to force the people that live there to go back to the ****hole that is today’s Ukraine.

Sevastopol is too easily blockaded by the Turks because the only route out of the Black Sea (Lake) is through the straits that pass through Turkey – the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles. If another country can lock your navy in its port or in a sea no bigger than twice that if the Great Lakes then it is not strategically secure.
That is why Russia is also building a base in Tartus, Syria in the Mediterranean. A base in Syria is far enough away from Russian territory that it is vulnerable.
The perfect solution for Russia would be to take Constantinople and both sides of the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles.
That’s one of the beautiful things about President Trump. The fact he was direct and no nonsense meant there was no need to use troops. With Biden, unfortunately, armed conflict is a very really possibility. His weakness means there’s a higher chance of people ‘testing’ him, and there’s a similarly high chance that he will over-reach and overreact.
