Strawman argument that attempts to ‘tear down the common strawman.’
Yeah, okie dokie.
Success.
Not.
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
~Isaiah 5:20~
Hitler had a big ethical argument he liked. He called it Mien Kampf...
Indeed. I just wish He wasn’t so patient. Maranatha!
The real viewpoint of women who abort:
While a pre-born baby is a living being, he is totally dependent upon his mother’s body for life support.
The aborting mother wishes to withdraw life support, not because the baby is non viable, but because he is inconvenient. Moreover, she wishes to do it privately, to escape being judged by others.
If women were required to post on their Facebook pages “I am getting an abortion of my healthy baby, because I don’t feel like taking care of him”, for all her world to see, I guarantee that there would be far fewer abortions.
“....and the candles are still standing...”
First off, the fact that “academics”, supposedly with a background in philosophy, could make such incredibly weak arguments with a straight face is sad, either they are dumb or they think we are. Second though, nice to see that’s the best academia can bring to the table. The teenage girl working the drive through at McDonalds could see through that drivel.

Good post.
Professing themselves to be wise they became fools.
They didn’t bring up the practical issue....that is...if someone is rendered unable (either by their own hand or another’s) to make conscious decisions, can their life be ended at the hands of another? How long does one wait?
So I am a pro choice advocate for murder does this mean I can murder someone outright and all will be fine with it? Looking for excuses to murder babies
Do the “academics” make any comment on the unique human genome of the blob of tissue?
BTW, there are rhythmic contractions of the trunco-conal septum (destined to grow into a heart) at 7-8 weeks.
Because we only know, generally, that a person becomes fully a human with inalienable rights somewhere between conception and the moment of birth, and because we know life is precious, we correctly "err" on the side that affirms life and rights begin at conception.
Ultimately, abortion could very well be murder, but what is indisputable is the so-called "pro choice" is actually a choice to deny human nature and the inner sense that life is precious.
In order to accept the premise of pro-choice, one must relinquish that vital part of the of self that makes one a human being. It is the murder of one's own soul.
Gen 9:6 Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.
Gen 9:7 And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.
Democrats are against both of these.
So their argument comes down to Peter Singer’s: a person is exclusively that human being who has a conscious-capable brain.
Not a person until after their first birthday?
Pro-aborts can write a paper claiming anything, can’t they?
Morality is a theological concept (in western Civilization a Christian construct). Ethics are legal and philosophically based. Abortion is thus, in a practicing Christian sense, immoral. Abortion to a philosophical mind is perfectly legal. And never the twain shall meet.
>>While “abortion generally is not murder,” Nobis and Dudley summarized, “the ethical arguments given to try to establish this are demonstrably weak.”
What is putting a baby who SURVIVES hir or her own death (by abortion) into a linen closer (Lenin closet) until he or she DIES gasping for air?
It isn’t about the “mother’s body” at that point. The child is free. The “mother” can even abandon her child at any of a number of places (fire stations for instance) with no legal repurcusions or financial obligations. Yet the man who’s seed conceived the child is on the hook financially for 18 years whether he wants to be or not, has no say in the life or death of that fetus, and even if he is an anonymous sperm donor can now be doxed years later.
>>While a pre-born baby is a living being, he is totally dependent upon his mother’s body for life support.
After the baby is out of the womb (s)he cannot feed herself/himself for years let alone move to safety or otherwise live any sort of independence.
Post-birth, the mother may easily and conveniently abandon the baby by dropping him off at any firehouse or hospital, no questions asked.
It’s even easier than abortion.
