"I never understood why people do that with a perfectly clean car."

Sometimes the shortest distance between two points is through the mud :)

It’s not just freedom of movement, it’s centralization of control of electrical power. If they can force everyone to charge their motors from a wall outlet, they can subsequently control the availability of that power. Over your monthly electricity usage limit? Aww, your power is now off until the first of next month. Enjoy the stone age!

There's just so much to love for these dictatorial communists with electric vehicles. The political commercials hawking electric subsidies for the "less fortunate" are as sure as the sun rising. You know, "no one should have to choose between freezing to death or being able to afford driving to the nearest welfare office."

Easy for politicians to screw things up for future generations, since they themselves won’t be around to live in their electric utopia.

If this were viable it would not need Federal funding. Does the Federal government fund the building of gas stations?

There are TWO big problems. First America simply doesn’t produce enough electricity. Second is the rare earth metals required to produce the batteries and electrical processors used in all electric cars. I believe the whole thing is to reduce American mobility and freedom.

The black market for gas will be huge. An acquaintance years ago had a refinery business on his ranch here in Montana. Took outdated jet engine fuel and distilled it to gasoline.

The black market for internal combustion vehicles parts will be huge also.

Volkswagon, Toyota, Panasonic and several others are all working on perfecting the solid state battery for use in vehicles.

We are probably 3-4 years away from them coming to the market.
When they are mass produced it will solve several of the lithium ion battery issues. First off, they will take 80% charge in 10 minutes. Second they will last longer than the vehicle they are put into. Batteries will last 30 years, 300 thousand or more miles.

There are issues with solid state batteries currently that are being worked on to bring a viable commercial product to market. IF the largest automobile corporations in the world are investing in this technology, it is because they believe it will pay off in the future.

Do an internet search for articles about solid state batteries.

Gee Chuck how is this going to play down on the farm where diesel fueled vehicles plant and maintain the crops, harvest the crops and take the harvest to market? Where does that battery powered tractor or combine get charged in the middle of the field? With the greenies plans to make us all vegan to eliminate cow farts from destroying the planet it is going to take a lot of soybeans to make enough tofu to keep us from starving.

Clean-up must be a horror show, especially in the engine compartment. I have Pearl White/Blackout 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee HEMI V8, and I’d take pass on the mud areas.

I had a 2014 Wrangler Rubicon. When you buy something like that, it seems like a waste of money to not put all of its (off road) capabilities to the test. The Wranglers actually have drain ports in the interior so you can hose them out, and the engine compartments can generally get a good rinse if you drive them through (cleanish) water.

They come with some pretty robust skid plates to protect the undercarriage and it can be pretty difficult to get all the mud and debris out from them. I have a friend who crossed a small rocky stream (about 2.5 feet deep). In the following weeks his Jeep started to smell horrible. An 8 or 9" long fish had got stuck under his skid plate and started to rot there :-)

Indeed coal fired power plants go on line there as fast as yard sales on a week end here.
