I retired from active service in 2009. It is simply amazing how much things have changed since then. It’s shocks my conscience that an officer would say this to anyone, in private much less public and to subordinates no less. I’m honestly aghast.
DoD Directive 13440.10 is pretty clear. You’re not to make political statements in uniform or in your official capacity; unit commanders, when speaking to subordinates are presumptively speaking with authority. So, in whatever context he made these comments - in formation or at the club - he MUST be relieved pending a full Article 32 Investigation. If there’s merit to the allegations, he must be tried by court-martial for an Article 92 violation, Failure to Obey.
