American language gets new words: ‘Zaddy’ and ‘oof’ among 300 words added to Dictionary.com

That's the best screen name I've seen so far. I can picture Chewy clad in both bandolier and tefillin blasting enemies with his bowcaster (if that's allowed while wearing tefellin), perhaps even going bonkers after Lando's flying nearly knocks down a mezuzah on the Falcon :D

I would like to see more resistance to new words so many people want to hurry into the English language. I particularly dread the "verbing" craze, which often sounds/reads infantile as well as unclear in meaning in many contexts.

I was actually being serious. The only thing I can legit think of as an origin for this is someone with daddy issues, but one step further.

(The origins of the current word appear to by NYC urban types where some rich, well-bred, grandfatherly (in a society where 14 year olds are baby daddies) sort might have unusual appeal.)

Because the leap wasn’t made. The rapper who came up with Zaddy has no clue it is Yiddish and neither do the hipsters at Dictionary.com

I thought that was a sheik. The female counterpart is a flapper. Never heard of zaddy.
